Everyone please give me your opinion and experiences
I am currently running a SC flashpaq on tow/perf. I am waiting for my Bully Dog Triple Dog to come in. I am going to switch to it . I am planning on running the BDTD on performance which I believe is 78 HP more. I do mostly highway driving and do not go around driving like a madman. I am not wanting to put in gauges or the outlook monitor. The guys where I bought my SC said I should be ok. They said I can play a little but not for any extended period of time without having gauges. Which is fine with me. My question is will my truck do anything particular while I am playing around to let me know that the EGT's are getting high or that I need to ease up? My dad has a f250 king ranch with 4" exhaust and a diablo sport predator programmer. He does not have any gauges either. He has not had any trouble at all. I think he keeps his truck on the 65 HP setting. I am just wanting to know what to look for. Any other info would be great. I know someone on here will have the info I am looking for.
No your truck will not do anything to let you know EGT's are getting high until it is too late and the damage is done. IMO its just not wise to spend the kind of money we do on these trucks then not install a few hundred dollars worth of guages to see what is going on when we add power. Guages could save your truck from damage and you from great expense.
If you are not going to install manual guages atleast get the outlook. Rumor has it they even have a new monitor coming out soon. If you are worried about warranty the outlook can be removed quick, the pyrometer can be pulled and the hole capped, but there are some who say the Bully Dog can leave traces the dealer can find. If you dont monitor things you are asking for trouble, even on the lower settings, you may be ok but is it worth rolling the dice on a very pricey motor?
I will answer by saying that i have a triple dog, and i have gauges. Did i run without gauges like you are describing? Of course. I ran it down the track without gauges as well.
The Bullydog on the performance setting is perfectly safe for the truck EGT wise. My EGT's dont get any hotter than stock with the Bullydog on performance.
Pulling a trailer is a different story. You can pull on performance but dont be getting on it hard pulling heavy up a steep grade. turn it down to tow/economy for that.
I run mine on performance or crazy larry all the time and have no EGT issues. Just turn it on performance and drive it like you already do. It will take a lot of racing or some heavy pulling up a steep grade to get it unsafely hot.
