Engine oil?

I live in a remote area of Tahoe at about 7000ft, there are no good local auto parts stores around. I've been useing the Delo 400 engine oil, but I'm looking to see what other people are using in their trucks. I have about 21k miles on my truck, and I tow very little, maybe 5-8k every blue moon.

Oh no... not another oil thread...

Many hours of reading threads on this subject here...

FWIW, nothing at all wrong with running Delo 400... a very good oil. I have run that, Schaeffers 9000, and Amsoil 15-40 marine all with good results.

I am a Schaeffer's Oil guy myself, I run the Supreme 7000 15W-40. Downside is you have to buy it in bulk, $300 minimum order. If you go to www.bobistheoilguy.com, you will see that Schaeffer's is extremely recommended. I have never heard a negative complaint, all praises.

Rotella, Delo, and Valvoline blue are all great 15-40 diesel motor oils. Pick one and don't worry about it. Rotella 15-40 conventional and 5-40 synthetic are available at any Walmart or Tractor Supply.

Rotella

I have noticed when i run rotella i get this awful odor outside the engine compartment. So i switched to delvac and do not notice the smell anymore. Just coincidence, probally not since the last time i changed my oil they were out of delvac and had to use rotella. And yes it stinks again. Need to change oil again just because of stink!

That is a fairly comon complaint.

I ran Delo 400 for a long time (and still do in all the other trucks and equipment) and then to RP with less then satisfactory oil analysis and now amsoil. The amsoil and 400 are great oils but I think I am goin back to dela just cause I dont need the extended drain interval.
