A buddy of mine loaned his truck out over the weekend and got a call that the truck was on the side of the road with fuel all over the engine... The guy said it kind of stalled/shot out a puff of smoke about 3 different times (about 15 minutes apart), then finally it shot out a big puff of smoke and died. Of course the truck was about 4 hours from home. They had it towed to a diesel truck shop and the guy at the shop pointed out a big hole in the side of the CP3. He said he never seen anything like it, so they had it towed to a dealer and they are replacing the pump...

His truck is a completely stock 04.5 except for a bully dog that has been set on tow mode since the truck was new... Now the truck has 97K on it...

So has anyone seen this happen before??? What could have caused it? I can see if the gears just locked up, but it doesn't explain the "stumbling" earlier in the drive...

 

i have seen the "freeze plugs" blow out of them

 

Lack of proper fuel supply, the plungers will gall up and the shaft will turn the tappets into little pieces. Time for a fuel system

I have heard of the happening to a modded CP3 before...

 

Yeah I blew apart a pump, trashed the inside, fuel pooring out every where, at the same time toasted 3 injectors (bad few...months). Now i'm hapily runing Floor it stage III, no problems.
