Engine brake for automatics? ? ? ? ?

To make towing more pleasant for my wife, we are considering a Dodge 3500 with an automatic. (We currently have one with a 6 speed manual). Is anyone making an engine brake for the Dodge automatic trans model?

Thanks in advance.

I think all of the Exhaust Brake Manufactures either have or will have shortly exhaust brakes for them. The problem right now is that DC is only going to approve them for the 04, 48RE's, and at this time DC has not approved them for the 04 48RE's. It's suppose to happen in January 04. Right now they would void your warranty.

Many people are using them on the 6 speed right now.

How heavy is your trailer???

I know it would be nice to have an auto, but for towing....the 6 speed is the way to go. Ive heard that the exhaust brakes downt work as well with the auto as well. My 2 cents....

Re:Engine brake for automatics? ? ? ? ?

I called DC about an exhaust brake for my 2004 48RE (which is on order). They told me that it would void the warranty. In other forums I've read that there are problems keeping the TC locked in all cases and there are pre-mature wear problems even if you do drive carefully and keep the TC locked.

If I'd know before I would have driven the 6sp and considered it. At this point I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with the 4sp and skip the exhaust brake option. There is also a rumor out there that DC will change the tranny at 2004.5. Guess we'll know after someone gets a 4.5 vehicle and tells us.

You may want to try the Banks Smart Lock trans brake for the auto tranny.

I have one on my 98 dodge 3500 and it works great. I tow 2 horse slant load trailer. I highly recomend it. I have over 100,000 miles on my truck so i don't care about the warranty and i've already updated my trans with an ats.
