Electrical Connections For Guages

Hi all,

Looking for some electrical help. Where is the best place to tap into wiring for guage backlighting and ground? I would appreciate any help regarding wire location, color of wire to tap into, etc.

Pictures are also nice. I'm a novice electrician and need guidance. Thanks in advance.

Fill out you profile so we can help you. DC colors change year to year, but I'll get it for you when I get home if you have an 04 and up. I used light switch power (orange/white lead 6) and factory grounds (black wire) with no problems. I'll check to make sure of that for you.

For the hot lead, there's an orange wire with a black stripe in the bottom row of wires coming from the headlight switch box. Don't use the black one with the orange stripe. Had to find the right one through trial and error so learn from my mistakes. The whole panel with the headlight switch and vent just pulls right off. This wire makes the backlighting come on when you put the parking lights on and also controls dimmer function. Basically so they work just like the dash gauges. I used a T-tap connector from the Di-Pricol universal three gauge wiring kit. For a ground, I just found a screw that was screwed into metal and used a ring terminal. I'll get a pic of this in my gallery for you.

Thanks for the correction on the power lead. As for the ground, I tapped into the factory ground.

Hey, I'm installing a triple gauge pod on the dash and have a question about the backlight wiring. Can I just daisy chain the like terminals (ground or hot feed) on all three gauges, then run one wire to the to the headlight power source or ring terminal for ground? I don't see why I couldnt, but I'm not that expereinced with this wiring stuff

Yes, you can. The current draw for the little bulbs in the gauges is very low.
