Unhappy EGT out of control

Hey Guy's

Hoping I can get some good feedback on this. I just installed my Volumizer yesterday and went for a test drive. I love the unit, however I have an EGT problem. On the 100 HP setting the EGT can exceed 1400 easy. At WOT 1400 comes in what seems to be under a couple of seconds. It would continue to climb if I did not let off the throttle. Is this normal for the 04? If so any ideas on how to get the EGT under control? Also will it cause any damage hit that number for a short time (under 10 second)?

I have a 12v but I'm guessing same princeaples apply. Your truck looks mostly stock and thats a pretty hefty power gain. You need more air.. lots more air. I dont know about the 04 but on 2nd gens usualy intake and exhaust is worth a few hundred degrees cooler each. I think some 04 allready have 4" exhust though. So maybe just an intake? I pretty sure on my truck to get abig jump in power like that I'd need alarger turbo housesing too or bigger turbo in general. Hope some of that helps

You need an intake and a straight through muffler to help cool things down.

I'd say the EGT you are reading on the 100hp setting is inline with everyone else. There are guys who are hitting ~1400° with an EZ on the highest setting (which is 65-70hp). You're able to get more power with the Volumizer since it's doing timing as well as pressure. Some intake and exhaust mods are in order if you want to run on the 100hp setting. If you're still running the factory exhaust, you need to look into replacing the muffler (and cat if you have one), and that should make a big difference. If you want, you can spring for a full 4" exhaust if you're engine is a pre-04.5. Any aftermarket air filter/air box will also help in reducing EGT. Beyond that, a turbo is in order.

I hit 1400 when towing, EZ on 3, w/ Ram Air 3 and DPP 4". I have to keep my foot out of it or it'll keep climbing.

Where is your thermocoupler installed, before or after the turbo? That reading sounds like a post turbo to me and if it is 1100 post is pretty toasty!

As for the EGT issue, The only true way to get rid of heat out of these HPCR cummins is by a diffrent turbo set up. Most of these trucks are 305 or 325 HP with a tiny 9cm2 exhaust housing on the turbo which is very restrictive. All this combined with a 100 hp chip will not help any.

Most people that do that still have some high EGT issues though. but also look at his sig, How much propane are you runnin in your motor? Thermolcoulplers and gauges do go bad and read off sometimes, I would see if there is any way to get it checked.

The Banks 6G with its timing feature also helps by at least 100 degrees, if not more. He's actually about were I would expect him to be with his modification list. I personally don't think there is anything wrong at all.....

My TST on 1/1 (all timing) is still warmer than that with the 600 turbo, intake and exhaust. I could hit 1300 bone stock now am about 1200 or so on 1/1.

Scotty III air intake, 4" exhaust with Aeroturbine and a Turbo Air Guide (TAG). All of these will help to lower EGTs by getting more air in and more air out. If this isn't enough them you may need to consider a replacement turbo.
