Edge Juice w/A2 tranny slip monitor...?
Edge Juice w/A2 tranny slip monitor...?
What exactly is the Edge Juice / A2 transmission slip monitor telling me?
Reguardless of what level I'm running it reads 0% untill I get up to crusing speed and then reads 32%... is this accurate, does this mean my TC is slipping 32% ?
... that was on the way to work today, cruise set @ 60. On the way home today cruise set @ 65 it said 85%... wouldn't I be able to tell if my tranny was slipping 85%...???
The truck has 74000 miles on it, I drive with the egg installed 95% of the time, and this is the first "big engine mod" I've installed.

I have played with detecting and displaying slip on more than one different type of vehicle.
There are a lot of problems with it. First, there is no factory measurement for slip.
So, what you have to do is look at input shaft speed, RPM and gear ratio. Then you have to wait until the converter is locked. You can then have a formula for slip.
Problem number 2. All converters have some slip in them. Some manufacturers tell you how much they should have but, it is sort of an unknown. So no matter what you will never get 100% direct drive with ZERO slip. It is just mechanically impossible.
Do you show any and all slippage or do you try and filter out how much a stock converter should have? Say something like up to 12% you show as 0%????
Last, like mentioned above if your tire size is off at all it affects the formula. The further off it is the worse the formula gets!
That is why I have never done it, or advertised it. It is a gimmick. It does not work and it cannot work. If it even sort of worked it can only work when the converter is locked.
I think people do this for advertising. It sounds good but, it is a bandaid fix at best to protect the transmission.
If you want to run a lot of power you need new hard parts.

Well I did check the tire size, it came from Edge set at 960 mm so I changed it to 2521 mm which is what the book said was correct for 265/70 17's.
Drove to work this AM, no change... reads 0% when unlocked, once I hit cruising speed and it locks in it goes to 85%...
I'm not overly concerned... I drive my truck... like an 8000lbs. truck... not like a 2500lbs. race car... I know my tranny isn't hurt, I just wonder why Edge bothered to put that particular monitor on the A2... seems like you could have put something else in its place instead....

You ask why it is put on? To add another level of safety. It works well enough on my truck but I have the Attitude not the A2. It is only functional with the TC locked (reads N/A when not locked). Qzilla may see it as a gimmick and that is his choice as he sells this type of product but much of what is included with these plug in boxes are gimmicks of one type or another no matter who makes them.
Back to the question of the OP, not only should you verify the tire diameter but verify the gear ratio in the A2.

Call Edge products about your problems I'am sure they will more than be happy to fix it, if under warranty for free, sometimes even when warranty is up they will fix it or replace it for free.
I've had excellent customer service from www.edgeproducts.com

Pretty bold statement to call it a gimmick and bandaid fix.
Especially from another simular product producer. If people read edge products literature and product information they state right there in black and white it only works when the converter is locked.
I have no interest in edge products or quadzilla products but for one to come on and slam the other is just not right.

Your right gear ratio also has to be selected and I beleave manual or auto.

Checked the gear ratio, it was correct, just the tire size was wrong, which was corrected but resulted in no change.
No selection for auto or manual on the A2...

I am not slamming anyone. This function is known not to work well at all on all the products they sell, not just this one. How many times do you see a post commenting on how well it works?
I simply explained how it works so you guys can understand what you are looking at and why it acts the way it does.
I am glad you think it works. I suppose it is my mistake for not just adding stuff (features) to products regardless of if they works. I guess as long as you put it in print people believe it?

Have you viewed the MPH on the A2 to see if it matches the truck speedo? There may still be something missing.
