Question drop in air filter

Hello,

I am interested in just a drop in air filter. I dont think I need to spend the money on a whole intake system. Is the K&N still out of the question for cummins? I wanted the Air Raid but was told that the it is actually a K&N filter.
I can find a K&N anywhere but have been having a hard time finding an AirRaid drop in. I have looked in the Search engine and found lots of good info but am looking for some updated info as I just bought this truck a couple weeks ago.
I might resort to an AFE intake system wich I know is a good one but I would rather just get an easy drop in filter. If you guys can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

I would recomend the AFE Pro Guard 7, I have only had it on for about 400 miles, but I am lovin it!

If you are committed to the factory air box, then I highly recommend sticking to the factory panel filter. However, you could, for example, try the AFE PG-7 drop-in replacement, and follow with some oil analysis to see if the filtration claims are valid. It could be that the AFE filters better than stock, I don't know.

The factory box sucks air right off the front tire and as such you need to be very careful what filter element you put in there. In my opinion, there is not much to be gained from using an after market panel filter in the factory box. you may as well stick with the fleetguard filter and change it often.

and the PG-7 media is the ONLY one I would suggest for testing in that application (factory box). anything else from any other after market source (in my opinion) is putting your engine at risk. I know many have done it, but I'm just saying that the filtration efficiency performance of the K&N is just not there and isn't worth the risk, in my opinion.

Try the AMSOIL drop in air filter of the True Flow drop in air filter.
IMO these 2 air filters are the best yo can get. Cummins is 100% against the K&N type filters due to the gauze that can mat up and then allow the full brunt of the air & dirt getting in and damageing the Turbo.
Bothe the AMSOIL and True Flow air filters are both foam based and oil based and they will not mat up and allow full flow of air & dirt to pass. If yo look at yo OEm air filter yo will notice that they now even place a foam pad on the bottem of it to help due to the paper not being real effective.

Thanks for the replies. I will probably get the AFE system. I am a little concerned with the fit in the 04.5. I heard(read) that it doesnt fit well and is a little to big for the underhood. I dont want to do any modifications. I think if you pay that much for any aftermarket product, it should fit in properly. But I am an impatient bastard also. I do look forward to putting it in. It has been a while since I did anything under the hood of a vehicle.

If you get the 600 specific system, it will fit like a charm

Click HERE to purchase the new 600 kit from Geno's Garage.

And check my gallery for pics of the installed system.

The filter and torque tube combo will be sold as the "stage 2" package.

However, it is not yet available.

I would get the aFe just for the PG7 filter.

K&N and HAPPY

Never gets replaced all I do is recharge every 15,000 miles supposed to be 50,000 but Im picky

alot more throtle response and whisle -----major diffrence.

However with the oil type filters if you over charge them it will suck filter oil in to the turbo. for a little added lubrication I tell my self

Ive never checked the fuel mileage diffrence but K&N says itll go up not sure how....I always figgered
more air means more fuel to get the correct mixture but some how your mileage is suppose to increase ? So Im not gonna say my fuel milage incresed .....just facts here.

BTW how often are you guys replacin the $20 BHAF . every oil change ????---$$$

I just got my airaid drop in last night, you talk about a well made, heavy filter! It is a Brit Shickhouse, appears to be excellent in workmanship and weighs about 3-4 times as much as the factory unit did. Factory unit was disgusting at 11K miles, but filter minder less than 1/2 after heavy pulls. Lots of bugs in the airbox.
