drop in air filter

have been reading about the K&N and it seems general feeling is don't use it. i have used one for about 25,000 miles and think i should get rid of it based on what i have read. no problems with it so far but feel it is time to move on. i have a 4" exhaust and want a replacement "drop in" fliter without having to modify anything.

to you in the know, what are my brand options? what do you recommend? if i run a stock filter will it cut back on my rwhp?

thanks,
david

Re:drop in air filter

I have never used any of the aftermarket oil coated media filters like the K&N. I have heard many here use them with great success. I think the key is not to over oil them and make sure you have got good seal. Which is bet? Everyone has their own mindset so you will hear lost of different thoughts about it.

I personally use the Fleetguard OEMs. I get them from Cummins when I buy the oil and fuel filters for my truck. Never had any problems with them and the only oil analysis I had done when running one came back very good. I live on very dusty roads here in Texas and the fleetguards have worked good for me.

I do plan on moving up to something other than stock once I get a fueling box. ;D

Re:drop in air filter

David,
I put an Amsoil oiled filter in mine--two stage foam, it has a GREAT seal. No oil analysis yet, and I'm no gearhead, but I drive a lot of dusty roads too and thought it might be effective. I think the airflow is better. You can check out Michael Sparks' website, he's a sponsor here. For what it's worth, I've run it for 2000 mi so far and carefully checked my intake and it seems to be really clean. Good luck, hope this helps a little, Bryan
