DRONE is GONE!!!
Being from the nanny state(ca.) took the muf off but kept the cat. Sounded nice untill I hooked the 12,000# fiver to it. Way too much noise, espescially pulling the Sierra's. Put a Donaldson 51" and all is quite. I had to smile cause the muffler guy wanted to know why I was putting that water heater under my truck.
Here's the story....
My buddy has a 1500 Hemi and he put a sweet exhaust on it. Sounds nice. He saw me get my Donaldson and just had to stop over to see it go on. I admit I was hoping for a bit of rumble, but I heard that it wouldn't drone while pulling, and that is important to me.
The Donaldson 51" has these metal tabs in the muffler, about 18" in if I remember, they are perforated, and folded in like flower petals.
I took a 4" pipe and rammed it down the muffler to open those up. She is 4" straight through. My buddy was thinking this baby will really bark now!
We bolted it on (just cut the OEM muffler off and a bit of pipe to fit, the existing pipe will move enough to fit the 51" monster) and my buddy stood right at the tailpipe when I fired it up.
Nothing. Sounds stock. Revved it up.... Stock. Ran down the road. Stock. Then hooked it up, and sure enough, quiet as stock.
The warden didn't even notice I put the muffler on when we pulled the fiver. Then she asked why I would cut off a perfectly good stock muffler just to put another one back on.
I pointed to the EGT gauge and said see there? This used to be higher... Lower is good!
