Drive shaft hoop
I'm looking on some info on the spec's for one, I can fab metal, just looking to see what I need... the only one that I can find for sell online is jegs, but I did not put more than 10-15 min into looking... if anyone has a good link, that would help...
TIA!

Seriously if your not Sledpulling on hard tracks on a regular basis then installing a driveshaft loop is complete waste of time.
3rd gen OEM U joints are very strong and are not prone to actually breaking (just wearing out from lack of lube).
But....
The info: Just go down to your local metal yard and buy some aluminum large diameter aluminum pipe or pole. For a rear driveshaft your probably looking at 12" diameter pipe or smaller. Have the metal yard do your length cutting because they usually have large band saws to complete large diameter cutting nicely.
As for a front driveshaft loop use a piece of schedule 80 steel pipe that is big enough to clear the od of the front drive shaft by several inches but does not interfere with any operations...
Also remember only mount loops to the differentials this way you wont have problems with clearance when your suspension flexes.
My rear ds loop is mounted via piece of steel stock that is bolted to the rear diff (tapped hole). The front is mounted via 2 pieces of steel stock via drilled holes and bolts and nuts.

Ya, but the NHRA rules that I seen for a few tracks that I'm looking at require a hoop for faster than 12.99, I think... I could probably do it for free, or close to it...
EDIT:
11.49...
EDIT:
11.49...
dang Sarge.... from 400+ hp to 11.49 in the 1/4 !
this is the rule in the book...
"All cars running 13.99 or faster with slicks except vehicles running 11.49 or slower on street tires"
this is probably the cheapest way to go.....
Driveshaft loops
If you decide you'd like to go this route.... let me know. I have two of them BNIB, cause I decided to go a different route.
It takes a little fabrication ( some has to be cut and bent ) but, this will be the out come...

Thanks... when I first read your 1st post, I was like, "WOW! 12 inch??? I must be reading it wrong..." I figured it out after a few...
Nice redneck (educated) fab work...

hold down, seat belts. In short, no unsafe cars.
If your car runs 13.99 or faster (100 MPH) you must also have a
drive shaft loop.
At 13.99 seconds you are required to wear a Snell 95
approved helmet.
I just cut and pasted from the IHRA online rule book. I want to make up a set of loops to keep the shaft from flopping into the fuel tank. I was wondering if guys were putting 2 loops on the rear shaft or just 1 at the rear joint? I think the aluminum pipe deal would be great for the front shaft because of all of the joints.
Sorry to hijack Madhat
this was on my "things to do" list for Spring
