CARR Super Hoop steps

Anyone using the CARR Super Hoop steps on their 1st gen? Seen here: http://tinyurl.com/f6okq I had the older Carr steps on my 95 F150. They were pretty decent steps. They had their two mounting bolts attach vertically through the floor. They held my 245 lb very well.

I just ordered the CARR Super Hoop steps about a month ago from Summit. I finally got them installed today (9/2). They look good! Problem is - these steps mount horizontally (4 bolts, two top, two bottom) through the rocker panel. Just pushing down on the steps I have a little flex in the step. My rocker pannels on my 93 W250 arn't mint, but they only have a little bit of rust. Nothing major to affect the structual integrity. I figure with my weight (245 lb), these steps are not going to hold up. Probably pull the rocker panel down over time. Anyone else have experience with their steps on the 1st gen? For about $110, I am pretty disapointed in these steps! Just thought I would put my impressions out there. Maybe save someone else the mistake of ordering the Super Hoop step for their 1st gen.

super BUMP

nobody ever replied to BroncoB way back when he posted this but I weigh 260 and wonder whether any mfr is making steps that are FRAME-mounted

the leverage on steps through-bolted to the rocker panel is too high, as BB mentions

i have looked all over the place and cant find anything. i plan on having to make a custom set of rock sliders, and extra long so i can get into my toolbox easier.

I have those Carr steps and like them but I weigh at least 90 lbs less than Sortie and I'm concerned about the mount. I could never find any on the shelf frame mounted alternatives.

My buddy has the carr steps on his and they feel pretty sturdy to me, I actually looked at the mounting and gave them a shake and watched when i stepped on them I was impressed. I'm 260.

For the tool box step I don't know but it looks like the pivot point is way outboard of the frame to me.
On the Carr steps I've never been afraid they were going to come off necessarily but I've always seen and felt flexing.

I just put a set of used Bully steps on mine, they seem to be ok but do flex a little with my 250lbs on em.

I found a cheap option. I went to a local guy that builds rockrails for jeeps and he made some to my specs. He charged me $200. They mount to the frame, are wide enough for my feet, and VERY heavly built. When I get them I can post a pic if anyones interested.

are those the type that bolt to the frame horizontally and also to the rocker panel? If so I'm surprised they flex...

Mine just have 4 bolts through the pinch weld and a screw in the inner rocker.
