this system is good but an easy way to get even more cheep cold air is to remove the whole airbox and just go get a 4 inch pvc connector from your local hardware store. Then get a K&N with a 4 inch opening. drill a 3/4 inch hole in the connector pipe for the intake air sensor. then connect the filter to the pipe connector and install the sensor. that easy the only crappy thing is that you still have to use the bumpy intake tube but thissystem was cheep and has never given me problems. plus this opens up alot of room for more toys IE water meth injection. i'll try to post picks.

intake

I did something simular with PVC 90 degree fitting and a shower drain to keep the beg stiuf out. Really increased the turbo whine with the silencer ring still installed.

But then you would have a K&N filter...

I would never run those filters...

I did a similar mod to what has been shown here don't know if it did anything but it felt good doing a little something. I used aluminum 4" pipe.

I just removed the baffle and drilled 17 one inch wholes in the bottom of my airbox. Still running the factory filter and noticed an increased in turbo wine. Even over my exhaust (no kitty, no muffler, 5" tip). I like the idea of having a cone type filter and ditching the top half of the airbox. If I could notch out the side corner of the airbox to make the cone filter sit down in the air box it would be almost like an AFE stage II. minus about $400.00 What filters do you recommend? And what size filter do I need?

I did something similar a couple of years ago but it plugged up with snow and I believe the problem is the original panel type filter is to small so I went to a BHAF and I find it a lot better. but if you are not from a climate where snow is a problem that will work. I can tell you that it is not fun when your in a snow storm and your truck is loosing power and you are afraid to stop because the guy behind you might be driving a Kenworth and may run over you.

It's a little different then what y'all have done but.....I have already built a 5.5" torque tube for mine, now I will be ordering this 90* rubber elbow 5.5" x 6" and this Amsoil air filter part number# EAAU6080
The Amsoil filter has the same size opening as a AFE II intake and will also tapper down in the same way as an AFE II intake. In the end it should whistle and show gains just like a AFE II. should be around $75-80 bucks when it's done!!

I will post up when I'm done.

my arm/hand through the fender passage to air box

maybe able to get some of these items off ebay cheap, seems there are wrecked ones and parts all over ebay for srt's, and i think is way better on the pocket than the ram air set up from mopar that doesn't work.

SRT, nice toys!!

FMB, FYI, i had a 2001 PSD, chipped, 5" exhaust and a K&N filter setup for that truck. After about 35K miles, (cleaned filter every 3-5K miles) tubo went out.

Dealer said it was due to the filter assembly and they highly do not reccomend the K&N filters for this reason at least not on Diesel trucks. They actually reccomended an AFE filter.

Luckly for me a friend of mine knew the District Warranty guy and they replaced the turbo under the 100K mile warranty. I sold that truck to that same friend....

my 2 cents

So which would be better from the airbox to the turbo.
1. 2 4" ID rubber 90deg elbows with 4" straight pipe between them (similar to the torque tube) or the stock tube with a 5.5" straight pipe section installed replacing the silencer crap unit?

I thought the 1st would be smoother airflow but I have been wondering if the white plastic vanes in the stock unit plus having the 5.5" section in the middle would be better. What do you think?
