Cool Blue Hose/ Turbo Air Guide
Cool Blue Hose/ Turbo Air Guide
I thought i'd give a report on the product now that I've had it for awhile. The guys at DPP are really helpful with questions and whatnot.
I'm curious if anyone else has the same...reservations...with the product that I do.
One of my qualms with it, cbh, is that if you use it with the turbo air guide it will be properly installed "when the hose isn't fully seated on the male end of the turbo (inlet)"
that's a ridiculous idea. the intake on the turbo has an area about 1.25" deep on which to mount your intake tube. so why the cool blue hose does not use all of that is beyond me. Nor does it come with a spacer you could put on before you put on the cbh. it doesn't sit well with me when I look at it, knowing that it's installed correctly if it's not 100% seated on the turbo inlet.
further more, this means that the cool blue hose hit's my oil filter.
weak
I just took it out today and put my stock tube back in (with baffles removed) and will compare the two.
lastly, the turbo air guide just "goes in the tube" there's no exact location in the tube that is marked, no indented area of the blue hose which a clamp could slide on, which would then hold the turbo air guide in place, the knowingly correct place. If you look at the stock intake tube there's indents on the tubing which you put the clamps, therefore you know exactly where the clamps should go. not with the turbo air guide.
It's a good idea but to say it needs some refinement is an understatement
hopefully others will chime in with solutions.

Dr Diesel - I was thinking of doing that (removing the t.a.g.) but in theory the tag is a great idea. Just like the stock intake, if you look at the last bend in the intake, the white plastic sort of guides the air into the turbo inlet, similar to what the turbo air guide does.
so without the tag 3 there's a bunch of swirling crazy air just trying to get sucked into the turbo. Unless that is, the force of suction from the turbo is so strong that the air goes in just fine no matter what.
I'm going to try and install the c.b.h. without the cab and see what I think. I can't imagine how loud the turbo is without the tag...b'c I'm already getting a bit tired of it....I just towed over 2,000 miles in 4 days and the turbo whine was killin' me

more so than that...the tag is a product that goes in the intake tube...it's designed to act as a facilitator of sorts.
Instead of a bunch of swirling, crazy air coming down the intake tube and going into the turbo, the tag straightens out the air so that it hits the blades of the turbo dead on, and in theory make the turbo more effective.
some say that it is thereby reducing airflow...others think that the minor reduction in airflow is outweighed by the benefits of the tag redirecting the air
who knows? right. I'm excited to rock my cool blue hose with and without the tag and see how I feel

I use it with the stock air box and an Amsoil Drop-In Nano Fiber filter.
This way, I don`t hack the stock inlet tube. It sound great with the silencer ring installed and I have no filter minder pull down issue`s.
You can find it here... www.dieselpowerproducts.com
I also have the cool blue hose, TAG, Amsoil Drop In filter, mine has been in for 10 months. It still is performing fantastically, I LOVE it. I also did the Cool Power modification (cutting a 4" hole into the bottom of the stock box and adding a hose that draws air from the bottom of the fenderwell). I have never drawn the filter minder down, have better throttle response/turbo spooling.
Basically the TAG replaces the plastic air deflector found in the stock setup. In theory the TAG helps to control and distribute the air evenly into the turbo blades. Without it you would have turbulence and uneven air flow into the blades, this would put strain on the bearing with uneven distribution across the blade surface. So, it will contribute to the life of the turbo bearing. Thier website has a more technical description, and, they can refer you to even more technical articles. I have had no problems with the TAG as far as some have reported failure in it's construction. I also had no problem in installation and referencing it's position in the CBH and securing it and the CBH. Pretty straightforward installation, took no time at all. I did see a mild amount of MPG gain but that was not my purpose for installing the products, my purpose was the benefit of the thermal properties the hose offered to the intake system as a whole.
I would recommend the system and would install it on my next truck.

$129 is about it. Don't waste your money on the whole kit, I did and don't think that it's worth it, Unless you just want it to look pretty. (the kit is all the hoses from the turbo to the intercooler to the intake.)
