Cold air intake... Which is all round best?
I am considering putting out the couple hundred bucks for a cold air intake system. K&N has one, Green I believe has one, AirAid has one... and so on. They are generally the same price give or take, but is it really worth it? I want the increased hp but also want better gas milage. (I want my cake and to eat it too) Is there any difference in the brands on the performance end of the spectrum? Does anyone have one that has tickled them pink with the performance?
I put in an AirAid filter in prior to the cold air intakes being produced and I gained about .5 miles to the gallon increase. Should I expect the same or is it a wash.
I have straight piped the truck and put a 5" extention after the straight pipe. I gained some performance and a lot of noise. (not that I am complaining, by doing this and my neighbors can hear me pull out of my driveway at 4:30AM with my boat heading to the lake and it makes them all curse my name with jealousy.) Anyway, I digress, but would this change any factors in the delivery?
Thanks.

For me it is the Volant. I have used them extensively for the past several years and currently have one on the sposual unit's 2004 Nissan Titan and just ordered one for my CTD from http://www.lildevilmotorsports.com/p...oducts_id=4808
My 98 Durango had one along with the sposual unit's old Nissan Frontier. Never, ever had any problems with them and I like the fact they are fully enclosed so as not to pull in any hot air from the engine compartment. Very well made and fit is good.
Keep your foot out of it and it is pretty quiet. Smash the throttle and you hear your motor really come to life
Dyno results that I have found are anywhere from 2-18 hp depending on the vehicle.

No it is the new RA III's that we are waiting on they have been improved and definately worth waiting for the improved one's. Scotty say's we should have them ready to go by about the 15th of July, maybe sooner.

We have tried different units on the 04 in our shop and the Scotty RA3 performs the best with the lowest EGTs and the 2-stage foam filter does a great job stopping the dirt. We recommend the Scotty intakes and UNI filters.

Check my pics out for the Airaid w/ MIT. I have one on my rig and I am very pleased. The Airaid actually has 7 layers of filtration and has really opened up my truck (I have straight pipes as well). I drive aprox. 1000/week on the Interstate unloaded and I am getting 19.5 - 20.2 MPG hand caluclated (all depends on driving condions ie. wind, rain, or late for work...lol) I try to drive at 65 mph @ around 1900 RPMs as I just set the cruise control and move on up the country. I removed the silencer ring and I really like how these Cummins will whistle ... I have a 3.73 6 speed and I think that helps.
If you have any other questions about this set up or would like additional information about the Airaid w/ MIT feel free to PM me. Also, I received my total package for around $250 with a free cleaner kit. If you would like to know where I purchased it from just let me know. The sales people there are awesome and I will direct you to the guy that assisted me.
For example, they had a problem with my shpping address as I wanted the kit delivered in 2 days. So, they ate the cost and overnited it to me in order for me to get it on time. Great service. SHOUT OUT TO SONNIE!!!
Keep on truck'n yall!!!
