Clutch Slipping w/ Quad XZT?
My 2004.5 has a Quad XZT & otherwise stock except for tone ring mod, muffler delete & 315/70-17 tires. I was pulling a light trailer (3000 lbs max.)up a pretty good grade (10%) @ 60 MPH. I could have held it in 6th put downshifted into fifth to keep temps in check (I don't have gauges just figured it would be better). After downshifting, I would put my foot down & revs jumped 200 RPM. The downshift really put the engine speed into the power band - 2000 RPM. As soon as revs would jump would pull foot out of it - well within 2 or 3 seconds anyway. This happed three times or so before I realized that my clutch was slipping , and my speed was not shooting up that fast.
I have the original clutch in the truck, but don't pull trailers often, don't race the truck, and am very easy on the clutch. Even after this incident, the clutch seems normal and does not smell. I know the clutch got some extra wear, but is there any real damage? I was surprized that such a mild chip (65 Hp) like the XZT would put the clutch over the edge. Has anyone else had issues w/ the XZT and stock clutch? I really don't want to replace the clutch yet .

How many miles are on the stock clutch?
Sometimes when they are on there way they slip easier.
Its only a matter of time.
Get the South Bend Con OFE. Real happy with mine

I have slipped mine quite a few times, even passing in 6th when you put your foot down it would slip. Seems it will do it a couple times, then be good for a long time. When I first bought my 30' gooseneck it would do it often, then one day it started holding ok, so i have been taking it easy on it until i can around to putting a better clutch in it.
A friend of mine was slipping his bad, using a Diablo tuner, so he replaced his with an aftermarket clutch. Funny thing is, the one he took out still looked new, so i think they are pretty durable, but just can't hold the extra torque.

85K on the stock clutch. Unless I burnt it with teh last trip, should not have been on it's way out. How much is a South Bend Con OFE? Not that I want to put a clutch in now, but I am curious.

Mine has been slipping too. I only have 35K miles. I don't race and don't drive it that hard. With my edge chip, in tow mode (2), I can get it to slip in 5th and 6th gear. Stock it won't slip.
I've been looking into the Southbend clutch too.

Yeah, I want the south bend really bad too, but i am waiting until I find somebody that has one I could try out. I tow heavy lots, and need a clutch with good street manners. That, and getting one shipped to Canada is looking pricey. I would buy one locally, but not many people seem to carry South Bend clutches up here, and the ones that do want a stoopid amount of money for them.

MMMmmmm.... Grits!!
You're my hero. I have had my butt kicked by this 06 w/G56. Your tranny weighs at least twice what mine does. I've been told it's a line up issue I'm having. I went with the OFE as well. Real beefy stuff. Can't wait to get it all back together.
