Can't get the stinkin FCA off!!!

Now that I know which is which.... (inside joke)

After 5 bits and 1 driver that look like this...

Oh, I forgot to take a picture of the handle that says "lifetime warranty" that is brand new...

I still can't get the FCA off. DANG you torx bits...

This thing ain't no joke. One bold stripped, one that caused carnage to all the bits and drivers. Let's here it for grade 8 bolts. Who was the donkey that desinged this anyhow?

Now I gotta take it to a machiene shop, I hope I don't have to pull the whole CP3.

do be do...

Go back to that pic I posted earlier and get the exact same torx bit from Mac. Tap it a few times with a hammer (I do mean tap) and they should come off. I have pulled 15+ and never had to use vise grips or anything else. If you have the time I can ship the bit to you to use. They are like 20$ It has to be a good quality hardened bit.

I was going to take a new bit to work tomorrow or the next day and get it cryogenically treated. Just blow the truck up.

I was talking to my grandpa earlier, and he says. "Just put a torch on it..."

Pops... it's fuel. You do it...

"Oh."

I had the same problem when after I modded my fca. It came out easy the first time. It seems to stick a little after the DIY so i wanted to pull a year ago but its still in there! So if you figure out a way to get it out please let me know!! I did the same thing to all the bits Ive tried. you might try and drive a allen wrench into the stripped bolts.

I just checked out my Snap-On set and it does not go near small enough for the FCA bolts. I put a 3/8 bolt in the LH one just for reference.

One of those impact drivers would help but it could also shear off the bolt.

Well you could try soaking that area with Seafoam Deep Creep Penetrating lube, it does soak in to tight areas and may help, and then tap the screws real good with a small hammer. If all else the Easyout will do the trick.

Yeah, I was lookin' for more detailed pictures and instructions on what I was talkin' about...

Don't tell me you guys have never used easy outs before?

That is granted that you can get'em into tight spaces

But I guess if you can get a camera in there...

This is the answer. It was also mentioned to tap the head of the bolt to help release the break away torque. They both will work but I lean toward the impact driver.

Since the torx screw is stripped now. Use a cut off wheel in a grinder and make it a flat blade screw. Then get an impact driver, got nothing to loose now if you want it off. Not sure how an easy out is going to help you. There for screws/bolts that are broke off inside with no head. There is types of sockets that you can drive onto the outside of the bolt. Havent seen ones yet that go that small for those torx screws. Abit of heat could help, like what plumbers use, small torch. Just be carefully, or take the CP3 off the engine and work on it on a bench instead bent over the truck. Good luck
