Built tranny question

Guys, I have been looking at trannys.... Mine has 100K on it of heavy towing and is feeling "mushy". When I hammer down as soon as it shifts to 2nd gear the RPM's stay at 2900RPM with absolutely no change intill I shifts into high gear. Whats the problem?
Anyways, in a few months I can park my truck while i drive a work truck, so I'm looing for parts or a replacement trans.
My mods are as my sig, but I have gauges comeing and hope to get a smarty after trans. My application is mostly towing, but in the future could be an occasional drag race, ect.
Should I:
have my trans rebuilt localy and then put a V-body a Converter in it
just buy a built trans?

What are my options and who should I deal with, ect.

If I were in your shoes, I would buy an already built tranny. I personally have used both ATS and Suncoast. I will never use ATS again cause it was nothing but problems. Suncoast however, is awesome. They are located in Florida, but there might be a Suncoast dealer close to you. Another one to Check out is HTS. I have driven a couple trucks with that tranny and I was very impressed.

You will probably get a lot of feed back on other trannies to. The only thing I would suggest is that you find a Tranny builder/dealer that is close to you that way if you ever have any problems, or when it is time to have your bands adjusted you can just go over to them and have it serviced. Best of Luck!

Is it a well know company that priced you out on the rebuild? Just make sure you get the billet Flexplate, and at the very minimum a billet input shaft.

There are a few good tranny guys... for the most part, they are pretty close in customer service and tranny's holding up. I have an ATS, and have not had any problems with it (that were not self induced) and have been very happy with their product and service, but... I wish they were closer.

I reccomend finding the closest big manufacturer, (gorend, suncost, HTS, Garmon) and go with that.

I also vote for the pre-built, and Flexplate, TC, VB, and Input at a minimum. Deep pan, too.

I would also say do the intermediate shaft if you ever plan to do any boosted launches, or think you might.
It will be easier and cheaper to do it while it is torn apart anyway, then to break it and have to pull everything and do it again.
Output shaft can be chaged without pulling tranny...I left my stock output in mine, per the recommendation of the builder.

This is the one and only time I would ever say.....I COMPLETELY DISAGREE!!!!

I am not the best racer out there, but I am very happy with my intermediate shaft. If I had "wasted" the money on an intermediate then the output would have definately left me on the side of the track. Talk to builders like Goerend and they will tell you the stock intermediate shaft is not the weakest...in fack it hold up to most abuse...MOST....unless you are a complete doofus, like me...doing 20-25LB launches. I found my weak spot. Here it was...and the Fix for it....

I broke my output, many say that you need a billet in and out, the intermedate is when you are making some SERUIOUS power...

John P has a stock middle, and he is at at least 800/1500+.
