Breaking in a Goerend Trans?

Ok,
I got a Fully built Goerend installed recently, and have been getting mixed reviews on how to break it in. I have heard to take it easy for the first 1k miles or so, and then Ive heard just to stomp on it?

Well, of course I had to stomp on it a few times...and I stomped as hard as I could after a few miles Smarty 4.4 lvl 9, but I have been taking it easy for a bit now to let it break in properly. Was this bad?

Any tips? Did I go about it the wrong way?

Well, I asked Dave and he said there wasn't really any major breaking in needed. I drove mine around town for a couple miles and put the hammer down. I only have about 3,000 on it since then, but all seems well.

I do my own trans for the race car and after I install it, I run it through the gears on jack stands and the next time it is run is a full pass on the track.

I say you are fine.

By the looks of the roads over by Daves shop I would venture a guess tat he tests the trannys out on his installs there before you get your truck.

It would be an understatement to say there was a bit of rubber left around his shop. (either by them or those picking up there trucks - me included).

I "tested" mine a little off the bat, drove it sensibly for a couple hundred miles and then drove it normally (hard off the line and throughout the curve) whenever the mood struck ever since.

Got about 15K on it with no worries.

Ditto, I say your good,........

With my DTT, the only thing that was mentioned to me by my installer was to come back after 1,500 miles to change the fluid/filter and to make any adjustments.

Ain't that the truth!

Dave and his installer drove my truck right after they rebuilt my tranny. They ran it up the road to warm it up, stopped and then dropped the hammer. I posted this before - They did 4-6 full throttle test runs with each setting on the shift enhanser to check line pressure, shift firmness, shift points and any issues with flaring. Then I got to drive it and I did the same thing. What a rush!

Dave was telling me there are high hp guys that will do 4 wheel burnouts right out of the garage.

I wouldn't worry too much about break in.

Boss, that is what James told me too. Same as Jared's builder. Just drive it like you normally would or play with it if you want. But go back in 1500 or so miles....even 2000 is fine....and get the fluid/filter changed and make any needed adjustments.

I have new fluid and filter ready to go and take to James as soon as I can get it scheduled with him. Mine has 1800 or so miles on it now...works flawlessly.

Sounds like Im just fine with doing some full throttle burnouts! If they do them right out of the shop then how can I have something to worry about?

James put some Amsoil ATF in mine and said it was good till about 25-30k miles. Im not sure if I need to take it back or not....and Im pretty sure James dropped the hammer on my truck to test it out. When I showed up my tires were telling me! I didnt care though, I wanted him to check it out!

The Amsoil may be good for that long but you may still want to change the fluid out pretty soon.....2000 miles or so. The trans may have some "particles" or whatever floating around in it from "break in"....with the new clutches, bands, shafts etc.

i talked to dave right after installing mine, actually called him during the initial test drive. he suggests doing at least a 100 or so shifts before you go throwing huge amounts of hp at it and abuse. i used a whole tank of fuel for my break-in just cause im **** about stuff like that. needless to say it worked out nicely.

I did put some miles on it before I really got down, but I think the trans was tested before I picked it up. Not too sure how hard it was run, but the trans guy is pretty darn reputable, so Im sure he did nothing to hurt it.

I will go back after about 2k to get it changed then....its unanamous!

Plus maybe he can adjust the bands or clutches or whatever?
