trans case breaking on a 727??

i'm new to the site. i've got a 91 ctd with the 3.spd automatic trans (727tf) i've heard horror stories that these break the cases,i was under the assumption that it was from internal breakage, and armageddon going on inside the trans causes the cases to break? i was talking to a reputable trans shop today, and the guy told me that was not the case, but there is some support brackets that connect to the bellhousing that if they are taken off cause to much stress on the bell housing and it breaks from the stress from the high torque of the cummins engine. can anybody straiten this out for me? thanks, pete

The 727 is one of the toughest trannys dodge ever made. They can deal with a lot of abuse, as mine can attest to. Just make sure your motor and tranny mounts are good. If your going to pull much get a temp gauge for tranny, heat is a trannys biggest enemy.
