Blew a freeze plug, Easy Fix?

Has anyone had to replace the freeze plug on the rear above the bell housing? I hope I can get it in if I take off the down pipe and get it from the bottom. Also what size do I need?

I have read about it...Someone, can't recall who, has a pattern for aluminum blank off to reinforce the plug so it stays in. You may want to try a search.

Hailsey machine makes a kit that will fix it for good.

You dont have to take anything off either. It pushes into the back of the block(you can do it with one hand), and then has 3 bolts to hold it in. It'll never blow out and is easy to put in. I dont think it is real expensive, and i dont think it is listed on their site, but call them and ask them about it.

Somewhat common for the early 600's blowing freeze plugs.

Here's one thread. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ht=freeze+plug

Can do a search for 'freeze plug' in the 3rd gen engine section for a lot more info.

I think it was Dodgezilla 04 who had a pattern to cure that problem.
