intake system versus swiss cheese

so seriously I have a question if the drop in OE replacement filter is the same as the filter that comes with the intake system. Then would a swiss cheesed stock air box flow as much as a system.

I guess I am asking, are the filters the same for flow and such?

IMO, until your really pushing some serious power (airflow), I think a properly modded stock airbox and a Amsoil filter will flow plenty for a stock turbo setup..
I drilled a 4" hole in the bottom of my box and added about 3' of vinyl duct for an additional cool air supply.

Where did you run your pipe/duct to get the cold air? Are there every any worries about water from rain or low water crossings (or any other debris - sticks, leaves, etc.) getting sucked up into the intake? Seems like it would just get clogged up in a heck of a hurry?

I guess then the filters are the same, meaning aftermarket drop in OE versus what comes in the system except for size? They both flow more it would be the less resrictive intake system that you gain more from correct?

Mine runs down in front of the fender well, so splashing water doesnt go in it. Standing water cant either since is it NOT a sealed system there would never be any vacuume to draw the water up the hose. The factory side inlet is still open. There is no way it would clog up being a 4" hose. The filter does need dusted more frequently, but that tells me more air is getting to the filter.
Its easy, inexpensive and works great. What more could you ask for?

i was wondering that this morning driving into work... my stock airbox if swiss cheesed- would it flow just as good, if not better than the s&b i have? i took the cover off my s&b and she got alittle louder and i like it. but i was wondering if a modded stock airbox would sound and do the same?
