BFG MT's or Goodyear MTR?

These are the two tires I've narrowed it down to in the 285/70/17 size. Price is about the same, so that's not an issue (unless there's a cheaper place than Trie Rack). I know 315s are cheaper, but I don't want 315s..
I tend to find myself in mud often during the summer as I camp and ATV in the mountains..it just happens that way, I usually don't steer for the mud. I have the Michelins on now, and my last truck ('03 CTD) had the BFG Rugged trails which were horrible in the mud. I expect the Michelins to be worse.
These tires will also be my full time tires, so looking for some long wear out of them too.....

Anyone had experience with one or both of these tires? I believe they're both D Load rated (?).

Thanks...

i had a set of the goodrich m/t's on a 94 1/2 ton chevy i had. they were 285/75/16. they were pretty awesome in muddy and snowy conditions. did pretty good in the wet also. made lots of road noise which i didnt mind. as far as mileage goes .... id say 35-40,000 would be a close figure. ( again that was on a 1/2 ton truck ) i also have had good luck with goodrich a/t's. and they last alot longer than the m/t's scott

I am running 285-70-17 BFG MT's on my truck. I also run a set of Good Year MT's on a GOV truck. The ware rate seams to be about the same but the Good Year MT's are quiter. They are about the same in the mud. Ther is a set of 285-70-17 BFG MT's on ebay now. Good luck. Tom

I have had three trucks with BFG M/T's and I love them. The Goodyear's are a good tire also, they are noisier then the BFG's if that matters? Also keep the pressures right, and rotate often and you can get 45-50K miles out of the BFG's.

I should have checked first. Tire Rack is a lot cheaper.

I have had BFG T/A's for 10k now and they are great. I think that you have made an excellent choice in tire size. They are big enough, but not too big.----GOOD LUCK

In my opinion, the AT/KO 285 tire is the best do-everything tire and I've got 'em on my truck. If your driving really does favor mud and snow I hear that the MT is superior traction. not surprising, as it is quite a bit more agressive and will clean out better. some guys if I remember right actuall prefer the goodyear MT over the BFG MT.b

I stay away from the deep stuff, but I go all over the forest service roads (and even stray away from those sometimes) in the mountains. the BFGs are always there for me. good siping for pavement and ice and thats impotant for highway black ice. reasonable lug design for really great compromize offroad traction and great in snow up to several inches. perfedt for anything but deep stuff (mud/snow) which I avoid anyway with a big heavy truck. I don't think you can beat 'em unless you get into soft stuff that won't clean out very well, in which case you need a real mud tire.

downside to the goodyear, other than noise, will be on ice. bad news for side-to-side traction on ice. I wouldnt put a mud tire on in the winters I drive through because black ice is more common than deep snow. If you really wanted to push the MT envelope, get a set of goodyear MTs and get them siped. still not as good as an AT/KO for winter highway driving on maintained/graded roads, but will give you the mud performance with reasonable highway behavior.

Since I dont seriously 4 wheel with my new truck my set-up is: a full set of BFGs 285-70 17, a Goodyear MT of the same size (picked up used) for the spare. That takes me anywhere I want to go. And I carry 4 chains if I get in trouble or want to push it.
