Best Cold Air Intake
Best Cold Air Intake
Ok so I just sold my 08 mustang GT for an 06 ram with the 5.9, and being only 18 this is my first diesel truck. I was just wandering what you guys thought was the best cold air intake for these trucks, i was thinking banks (i would never buy the banks programmer though, i just think their exhaust and intake are good products) since it has such a wide neck so less restriction, i dont want to spend more than $400 though, so what would you guy recommend?
You can save a lot of money building your own. I did mine for around $25 with a 4" drain pipe elbow and a 5.5" piece of aluminum tubing to remove the intake baffle. Still using the stock airbox with the drop in filter.
Do a search on the subject and will find hours of reading.

You will find hours and hours of reading material on this subject. If you aren't going to build your own like MikeyB suggested you could look at AFE that is what I decided to run. They are alittle spendy but I am very happy with mine.
I bought a S&B and like it alot plus it was half the price of the others but that was when I first got my truck and didnt know about a BHAF. I too would just build my own with a S&B filter, do a search here on BHAF, Ive read that the 3rd gen trucks do better with an open filter as apposed to an inclosed box type.
like Neight said you can find hours of reading but if you don't want to build your own I'm VERY happy with my AFE Monster Cannon. Keep an eye open for a good deal on them. I ended up waiting for the DHRA event in Houston and got it for only $320 brand new from a dealer

Where in TN are you located? Tell us a little about your truck, and fill in your signature under "User CP".
As has been said, the best thing is probably fabbing your own. There is a LOT of information about *****'s Whistler intake, as well as many others.
Before I was so learned, I purchased an AFE Stage II. It works great, and they have awesome customer service and warranty; however, they are a bit pricey, and you may be better off just building your own and using the extra money for some gauges or other mods.

I swapped the blocked up stock intake tube with aluminum pipe of the same size ($12) and swiss cheesed the bottom of the air box. From what I can see a big cold air intake won't do much until you do more mods. It is like putting a fire hose end on a garden hose. The better end would be to replace the muffler (which is a restriction). Mr..Smarty JR can help you out with the money you save from building your own cheap intake.
I really like the AEM Workhorse Induction, I had no idea how big that sucker was. It almost didn't fit in the box I made for it. I personally chose to just get the filter and make my own air box for it. Saved alot going that route
