Post Banks Release of the Six Gun Diesel Tuner

Banks has just released their Six Gun Diesel Tuner for the 03-04

http://www.bankspower.com/newproducts-1-04-2.cfm
This looks very promising but costly $699.

I gave them a call and they state it plugs in in the cab and a nother cable plugs into the CANBUS under the hood. It also is in cab adjustable. Looks like I'll have to see if I can swing one in a month or two

If it works as well as the FIRST 24 valve kit did, Im in

I had a very good experience with banks on my 99 (before TLC)

some people did not have such an experience with the 97/ 12 valve kit and I would bet those people will commence the bashings soon

I think they'll leave the bashing out unless they have something constructive to say

The link you gave doesn't work. Here's another link for it, http://www.bankspower.com/System.cfm...D05&sysid=SD26

So its a timing/pressure box with a bell (EGT-determined cutback) and a whistle (slip detection)?

Make shure you do your homework before you buy. TST blows the Six Gun away by 45hp and 242lb ft of torque. Banks is also raising fuel pressure which the TST box stays away from. Not to mention defueling between shifts and major defueling when you get over 1250 degree EGT's. You can also get the TST with built in gauges. This is definantly geared more to the 5th wheeler and not to high performance diesel enthusiast. Just my educated opinion.

hey thanks, guys. the question I want to answer is this: once committed to a turbocharger as a way of eliminating the weakest link in the air system when utilizing a fueling box,

1. will the $300 cost (to have piers wave their hands over my turbo) yield a satisfying result with the likes of the TST boxb, or
b
2. Will I wish I had put that $300 towards a different turbo entirely

The question has to do with the ability of the piersified turbo to make use of the all the HP TST might have to offer. If it is a "80% solution" meaning that I can use 80% of the TST power (protected by EGT-driven fueling cutbacks), thats worth the $300 to me until I can get more serious. However, if the peirsified turbo is only a "50% solution" I may choose to put that $300 towards a real B1, quadzilla, DD or whatever other solutions there might be out there. keep in mind that I don't want too much turbo because my bottom end will suffer (6 speed...) and that I"m not interested in injectors at this point (want to stay with just the box for fueling)

now then, to make the most use of $$, I'd invest in a turbo that might one day become the smaller of two

One particular question I had on the piersified turbo: this is a stock HY-10 machined to accomodate an HX-40 compressor and contains 0% balenced pinwheels on both the exhaust and compressor side. doesn't the small impeller mated to the largish compressor present some issues if the compressor can't slow down fast enough to avoid bark? Just trying to understand the drawbacks of the piersified HY-10

Im glad , because it makes for a frusterating thread to read.

Does anyone know if the six gun has to be tied in with the egt
(like the TLC)?

how can it detect slip in the tranny? I don't think our computers monitor this like the chevys do ... correct me if i'm wrong (it wouldn't be the first time)

The Banks Six Gun is hooked up to the EGT and will defuel to keep temps at a max of 1250 degrees. If this box works like it did on the 2nd gens it doesn't sense the torque converter slip but it defuels before every shift which can be quite anoying. It also will not produce more torque than will hurt your auto trans... this really limits the bottom end and is probably why the TST box makes twice the amount of torque that the Banks box does. Again the safty features are great for a fifth wheeler who wants to install one package and drive, but not good for the high performance crowd.

The Banks box won't defuel at every shift, only when going into lockup. Also, this box monitors the RPM's and speed to determine if the tranny is slipping. At this point the box will defuel.
