Banks Six-Gun and Big Head Actuator
I got the Banks Big Head Actuator installed today. It seems to have added about 5 more pounds of boost over what I was getting before. I took the truck for a haul to Chapel Hill to grab a car (about 3k empty & 7K loaded). Six-Gun was on 4 setting with propane on with empty trailer on the way up. I was running about 65 mph and EGT's were about 6-700 degrees. Even hammering it I could not get over 8-900 degrees. On the way back with a full load on setting 3 and propane on I got about the same maybe 50 degrees more. Very nice smooth power especially over 2000 rpm. I still think it is running very cool and cannot tell if there is something wrong somewhere. It runs great but I am not sure I trust the readings on the pyrometer, they seem very low to me. For anyone that orders one of these and doesn't know how to install e-mail me, I will provide some instructions for you that will save some of your time. Banks decided it was too much of a bother to include instructions with a $170.00 part. I would have paid another five bucks for those after having to install and take it out four times and make two phone calls to the vendor, and then have to also run to Lowe's for hardware that didn't come with the part. The nuts from your old actuator do not fit the Banks actuator. Not whinning but those two things turned what should have been a 30 minute install into about a 3 hour job and then the rain came. Max boost now is about 30 lbs from this addition. No codes at all. Happy hauling.
Some instructions would be great. Did you have to remove the turbo to install the actuator? What additional hardware did you have to buy ( other than the nut) if any? Are ther any tricks you came up with to get the job done?

You don't have to remove the turbo. Two nuts with lock washers is what was needed, but didn't find that out untill old one was off and I was half way through the job. After you mount the actuator flip the wastegate flap up or skyward and adjust the actuator connection to the point where it barely fits over the wastegate connection. Now take it off and adjust the actuator connection inwards six full turns. Now hook up compressed air to the actuator and remount the actuator - leaving the nuts loose. Once the actuator is mounted to its bracket then supply the compressed air to the actuator (at least 45lbs) and slide the actuator connection over the wastegate connection and install the c-clip. Tighten the nuts on the actuator. Then hook up the hose from the motor to the actuator and you are done.
I can get 30 lbs but I have to be really getting on it. The nice thing about it though is the turbo does spool up faster and maintains a higher boost at cruise which keeps things cooler. I am still amazed the hardware and instructuons were not included. When I fork out $170.00 to Banks for one of their products I would expect the extra $1 of items. It would have made things much easier.
