Banks Ram-Air W/Super Scoop Water ingestion
Banks Ram-Air W/Super Scoop Water ingestion
Before I ask my question I wanted to say that I search the forum and found nothing about this. I found a few comments about rain water but that’s it...
Ive been considering a few intakes and have been leaning toward Banks’ because of the Super-Scoop but the Super Scoop is also my concern.
I understand how it’s able to dissipate and not ingest rain water but what happens is you hit a surge of puddled rain water on the highway or any other road for that matter. See, I live in Charleston SC and when it rains we have a lot of water that collects on the interstate, highways, roads and even bridges. Just to paint a picture.....I not talking about a little water that splashes up either I’m talking about water you hit and it’s like you just went down the hill on an amusement park log ride...
So here’s the question does anyone use this scoop and live in the Charleston area or an area with conditions similar to what I described.
I can’t find any warning on Bank’s site for standing water it only says rain water.... So I’m thinking the scoop won’t work for me and will most likely dames my motor. But what do y’all think.... you would think they would have some sort of water filter or deflector instead of just an open back in the scoop....

I don't think the Bank's is worth it and I've always wondered the same thing.
I'd keep the stock filter. Despite their ads of big power gains,I've known people who used the product and they couldn't feel a seat of the pants improvement like a Smarty.

Non issue
I’ve run the Banks Ram air kit with super scoop since 2009. Probably better than 100,000 miles with this setup, I’d have to check. Snow, rain or standing water has never been an issue at any speed. I’ve driven all over the country with this set up. Now,,,,if you plan to continually ford a stream or river deeper than the scoop, you may have an issue. I’ve had the scoop submerged and still never had an issue. For the record, the Banks stuff is some of the best built product on the market. Stainless hardware. Perfect fit etc.
