Water/Meth Injection- Water Quality?

A quick question about water quality requirements in a water/meth injection system. Specifically, Does hard water have a negative impact? Here in New Mexico we have "Hard" water. I look at my shower heads with the built-up crud and think that it cannot be a good idea to spray that into an expensive engine. If filtered water is required then that would negate the potential mpg savings that people are reporting.

Are you against running some meth in the mix? Washer fluid that does not get all foamy when shook is some good stuff. For the most part thats what I run and have been running in my car for about 2 years now.

I personally would not like the hard water, that could build deposits in your pump or nozzles.

-20 washer fluid from Walmart works for me. Been doing it for over a year now.

If you are using pure water, I would use filtered.

Thanks for the replies,

I would certainly use the methanol. I was more concerned about the abrasive qualities of the calcium carbonate in our water. Chris Brahs (Thanks Chris) spoke with the folks at Snow Performance on my behalf and they claimed that hard water is not a problem for the power plant and that you merely need to clean the water/meth system injectors every three months rather than 8-12. I was merely attempting to make sure the ducks talk with each other in an appropriate manner as well as line up.

Thanks,

Jim

There is far more to be concerned with than just the water injectors. Many users have removed intake horns and found rust, there is a product you can use to help with that....but I just can't recall the name at the moment.

PM John P, he can tell you what he is using and why

Distilled Water / Methanol

I am running distilled water and methanol at 50/50 mix. I just get the cheapest distilled water when I can't get enough water from my dehumidifer. South Texas is humidity city and the water from the dehumidifer is as good as distilled, 46 pints/day in the summer.

Thanks Guys,

Trying to sort options. I was hoping to run the W/M on a regular basis, not just for the occasion dyno pull. The rust concerns are troublesome. Thanks for the heads up Lary. Curious, Snow Performance claims it does not matter. Are the other vendors requiring distilled water?

Dogger, must be a mixed blessing. Good water source, but hellish to endure. Our humidity levels lately have been in the 9-12% range.

Thanks,

Jim
