With a wastegated turbo u can run a certain psi and spray it and not have an issue with it. With nitrous this way is just safer.
Makes sense to me. My second stage is smaller than the first, but whatever i see what your saying and im sure thats what did this turbo in. Cause i was spraying both stages when input shaft broke and im sure that caused a chain reaction of things to go wrong. Im just glad a rod didnt come flying out of the block when the shaft broke and the motor was revving to the stock max with the nitrous still sparying into it.

I've looked at the stock exhaust wheel a few times. The exhaust wheel is only part of the equation though. You also have to look at the compressor wheel and exhaust housing size to compare air flow.

The later 3rd gen turbos are by far the best stockers Cummins ever used. I could see the A2K being an upgrade on a 1st, 2nd, or early 3rd gen but I doubt it moves more air than a later 3rd gen turbo.

Your Smarty can also disable the stock WG

No, but I have heard "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog".

I'm no turbo expert by any means, but I just don't see how a smaller compressor wheel is going to flow more air. Maybe more hot air with higher drive pressures.

Allright mr. jrussell, see if you can find out how many cfm's the stocker flows then find out how many cfm's the a2k flows. From what i have found the a2k flows about twice the amount of airflow. Unless what i looked at was false information.

Well where was this information that you looked at? I searched ATS's site but they seem to have removed the specs for that turbo.

Twice the air with a smaller compressor wheel just doesn't sound realistic. Why would anyone need a LARGER turbo if that was the case?

People generalize that bigger is better. If this were the case, and bigger makes more power, then why doesn't everybody use an S480 as a single replacement. There is a lot to be accomplished by using the right geometry when making wheels and housings.

An S480 is too big for most people to run as a single. If you had enough fuel it would sure make more power than an A2K though.

If bigger isn't better then why are all the other aftermarket turbo's bigger than stock?

Cfm's

From what i have found, and im not sure if they are comparing the same stock turbo as what we have but it is the 35, ats says the stocker flows 555cfm. Ats is saying that the a2k flows 877cfm. And i thought they rated it at
9 hundred something cfm's but all i could find was the 877. Where is erik at ats when you need him?
