ATS Torque Converter

Has anyone else had one fail? Mine made it up to CO this weekend but then after Raton Pass started to whine like a mad cat! Made it back to Texas and it is being pulled today! Depending on how much metal came off the tranny may have to be gone through again…. This is a shop that besides being a ATS installer I have been having my work done there for many years but getting a bad Converter—other than the “mad cat” it works great but does nothing for my confidence!

Really am leery about another ATS but have no choice except to eat the cost of this one. I have had ATS stuff before (installed in Denver even) with no issues on the Duramax but that was a 3 disk not the 5 disk.

Any thoughts out there?

I've got an ATS TC in my personal truck, and a fully built tranny in our work truck. no problems yet ... I'm personally an ATS fan, they've been good to me (but then again living nearby I can get stuff done by them personally). have you contacted them about warranty work?

Unfortunately, if they don't do the work themselves in Denver, then most the time they will not warranty it.

Says who? Their warranty implies and expresses better coverage than that. It fully supports their distributors and dealers. I dealt with ATS a bunch and they had great warranty work with them and coverage through multiple states. They were great until I expressed my displeasure with all the problems I was having and all the down time and stuff, then they stopped covering it through the dealers and wanted it brought to Colorado at which time I said no.

They should cover it unless you are out of their warranty guidelines.

When I speak of cost it is purely from a change vendor perspective i.e. Suncoast. To update this a little a new converter is on the way and I doubt very seriously that there will be an issue with a 2nd one. The reason that ATS was chosen in the 1st place was because of past performance on a previous vehicle. The point was really that when you pay a premium price for a premium product one does not expect failure of said part. The good news is that the ATS Flexplate did not fail lol!!! Man that is one stout piece of billet!!! ATS is stepping up as I knew they would but it is always my luck that if there is a bad part I always get it LOL!!

I know somebody who broke their torque converter not long after getting it and ATS told them they would not warranty it because a ATS "dealer" did the work and not "ATS". Not bashing ATS, i have a complete ATS built tranny and have no complaints

Hi Everyone, this is Eddie and I have question for a buddy. He was at work with his 2003 5.9L Cummins. He asked me to check out problems with the ATS Torque converter lockup controller. His truck leaps forward when he puts it in gear and he was hoping that it means controller problems rather than TC problems. Anybody know how to trouble shoot to see what is causing the problem? Thanks.
