A very irritating humming sound for lack of a better discription.

 

Drone is the harmonic rumble or just plain noise that you get around 70mph. The sound backs up in the pipe and resonates through the cab. It is very unpleasant on long trips.

 

After I get the Aero Turbine, if I get the drone, can I put in a high flow muffler in to cancel the drone?

If you mount the Aeroturbine all the way forward in the system it will stop the drone. The straight through mufflers mounted in the stock location do very little to nothing to stop the drone. The muffler will only quiet the sound not stop the drone.

I just saw the 5" Aeroturbine up close and personal at my local diesel shop. It's awesome!! I makes me almost want to change my entire system. Now that's a serious piece of engineering.

 

Update: We put the Aero Turbine 4040 in today, and all I can say is WOW! It sounds so freaking awesome! We took out the Resonator/CAT and stock muffler and put the 4040 as far forward as it can go, then straight piped the rest. There is no drone, and my turbo spools insanely quicker. My buddy who has a 600 said that my truck (a 550) feels way more powerful than his and now he wants all the mods that I have. My truck rules!!!!

 

I put a 4040L in my truck a week ago. All I can say is WOW too!! Great sound...No drone. I did mount it right behind the cat. The Aeroturbine system from DPP has got to be the best bang for buck out there.

 

I paid $175 Cdn for the 4040 and $60 Cdn for 10 feet of 4" straight pipe. Find me another exhaust system that is cheaper than $235 Cdn, and eliminates the CAT, I don't think it's possible. Only one problem that I've found with the sound of my truck, I love it so much my right foot has grown heavy.

With that kit, just be sure to mount the Aeroturbine right on the down pipe to get the most benefit from it.
