Been thinking about gettin a set of these in the next few weeks.
I know this is a 3rd gen forum but do you think they'd look a bit smallish on my old 1stgen? FWIW the 315/35s only measure 33 with a tape as it is.

I had the km2's installed on my dually. Not many miles on them yet, but I love the way they look and perform. Not real noisy, I would recommend them. Here in PA I payed $1,300 out the door

13500 miles in just under 13 month of use on my KM2's----wearing great/one rotation.I will rotate again at the end of April as this is when i go though everything on my truck just before Summer driving season, .When i do this rotation i am going to put at set of "Centramatic" wheel balancer's on as well to see if i can get a little more life out of them.Who knows,maybe smooth it out a bit more.DW

I am posting this to offer a response and a challenge. I have a 2006 Dodge CTD 4X4 Dually std. cab with 6 speed transmission. The truck is driven in the Western US on off road camping trips. As we all know these trucks come with 17X6 Wheels all around with the crappy Ameritrac tires 235/80-17. Its been quite some time before we now have some tire options. But before we talk about tires we need to address Engineering. From all of the conversations that I have had with Tire Engineers and 4X4 "Experts" the Only and Best tire to mount on a 17X6 Wheel is a 235/80-17. Yes it is possible to mount larger tires but the larger the tire the more we move from stupidity to insanity. The 255/80-17 BFG MT KM2 has the following specs:
Section Width: 10"
Thread Width: 7.1"
Overall Diameter: 33.3"
Wheel Width Recommendation by the Manufacture: 6.5"-8.5"
As we have seen wheel spacers are not required even when using the wrong 17X6 Wheels with these tires. The old tire/wheel rule applies here that the Thread Width must equal the Wheel Width. This means that one needs a 17X7 Wheel to properly fit a 255 Tire. This will yield the best tire wear over time. Also the widest wheel that one can fit on the truck without any interference with suspension items is a 17X7 and not using unique wheel adapters or spacers. When using a narrow wheel like the 17X6 and running high tire pressures like 50 pounds and above the center of the tire will bulge higher than the shoulders and you will get premature tire wear. From my research 15K to 20K should be expected. This is compounded by the fact that on a Dually Truck the front tires wear faster than the rears (As much as 50%). This is because on a dually the rear tires in a turn want to keep driving forward and when the front tires are turned they are being ground into the payment that is why cupping is such a problem along with the fact that there is a 1000 pound engine on top of them too. Having a PIS Unit Bearing in a Full Time Mode doesn’t help either too.
Wheel options are slim to none. There is no aftermarket wheel that is 7" wide - steel or aluminum. If one wanted an aluminum wheel the best company is Alcoa since they are forged and the centers would be a little thinner. But longer wheel lug nut studs would be needed and the outer wheel would not really be aligned because of the hub when running inner and outer wheels of the same material and size. The normal practice that is common when running aluminum wheels is to have a total of 4 wheels with steel inners (This is really a BS solution since this whole practice is just for Show and Cosmetics Sake with functionality thrown out of the window). I have called Alcoa and they have said that running inners and outers will require the aforementioned mods and that that’s expensive just to get a 17X6.75" wheel - just short of the optimal spec. Stockton Wheel used to be able to offer the service of widening steel wheels by cutting the Original centers and welding new Barrels. But as of this month they are no longer doing this. There was a death of the owner this year so this company got hit hard. Maybe they will do it later but who knows. Weld Racing is planning on releasing Dually Wheels in 60 days but I am sure that the same issues from Alcoa will arise again. This means for the monument there does not exist a 17X7” Dually wheel for all 6 wheels available. If one goes down the widening route the company that does this work really needs to know what they are doing from a welding point of view not to mention the Insurance Liability that will be required to cover any accident. Remember when the Lawyers come out looking for blood they will go after the company that made the “Alternation” and hold them Liable if the cause of the accident was wheel failure. I estimate that the Insurance Policy amount should be at least $10M.
The bottom line and the challenges are the following:
1. One needs to get Hard and True Real World Mileage numbers with people running the 255 tires on stock wheels and see how the wear patterns are developing. Also taking into consideration the wear conditions and attributes of front and rear tires.
2. Is there a company out there that has picked up the ball that Stockton Wheel has left behind ?
3. What are the prospects of a company making an Aluminum Wheel that could be used in the rears as inners and outers and providing a kit with lug nut studs and adapters ? After all when you look at big rids they are running all aluminum wheels and they do this for the holy grail of reasons – For Strength and Performance !

18000 miles as of today with mine and are wearing even,will rotate again this weekend as i have a 2500 mile road trip in 2 weeks(holidays).Easily 60% left in life,hope to get 40K miles out of them.I also run Centramatic wheel balancer's if that helps.As stated before that they wear terrible and less than 20K per set--more spinning tires than driving IMHO.I tow as well and drive both city/highway/some gravel roads---i will buy again.DW
