Another Tranny Question
We've got two 2500s at work with 48re's that are both on there last leg. Both trucks tow often, anywhere from 3k to 15k or so. Both trucks have Quad XZTs (60ish hp over stock). Both trucks have just over 120,000 miles on them. The owners seemed interested when i mentioned built tranny's that would work much better and last longer than what we have now, and i did a quick search for some prices.
I was wondering if anyone knew what the going rate for a DEALER rebuild on a 48re was. I've read lots of threads but havent seen anyone say what the dealer would charge. Just trying to do some research tonight.
If the price difference in a dealer rebuild and a "built" tranny isnt huge, then i can talk them into it.

I would have to think a built trans would be cheaper than a dealer rebuild. I don't think you ever see prices posted for a dealer rebuild because I don't think anyone would be crazy enough to pay what they want for another slushbox.
Check www.goerend.com and see their prices for a nicely built trans. You can get a heavy duty trans for $3200 and that's with a 3yr/100k warranty on the trans and lifetime on the converter!
