Another high idle mod question
Another high idle mod question
Hey all,
I did an extensive search on doing the high idle mod on my 04.5 6spd. I know what all needs to be done, but I haven't been able to find a good place to order the ECM pin. (I'd think that would be a good item to carry in the DTR store or that a place like Geno's would carry it)
Anyway, the one Cummins parts place I found online wants $10.50 for the pin (perfectly reasonable) but they charge $15 handling on ALL orders, then another 10 for shipping
Does anyone know of a better place to get one besides driving to the Cummins dealer? I'm currently in Iraq and will be home in a week and would like to do this as soon as I get home, but it is snowing like crazy and cold at home, so I don't want to have to drive 60 miles to get to a Cummins place with all the idiots on the freeway in the snow
Does anybody have a picture of what the actual pin looks like? I have a bunch of gold plated aircraft style connector pins that may work if I know what I'm trying to match.
BTW-is there anybody in the Ogden UT area with a Smarty that would be willing to enable the high idle for me? I pay in "strong" beer--not that 3.2 stuff everybody else in the state gets

i would try another cummins place, that one is hosing you,i got one from my local cummins place and it was 6 bucks canadian,of course no shipping or handling fee, thats insane for a piece of wire, its like 3 inches long maybe 16 gauge wire with a special end,i think it just had a fishhook type conector on the end,it goes in and cant come out so you better get the right location,i did every thing acording to the instructions and took it to the dealer to have it enabled and it still doesnt work,i dont know if its my fault or they dodnt know what they are doing

i read on here some guys with early 04{305}6spds got it to work.it was in the abs section when they used thier tool.i think there is a tsb to make it work but they said i had thatalready, cant remember which tsb.im gonna rig a choke cable like i had on my 01,kinda crude but worked.maybe a tuner could make it auto idle up after idling for 3 minutes,i would like that, since its been cold here my cold idle comes on in the morning and a few times during some stops.even fully wamed up,it must be sucking in the cold air and turning it on,i read here a guy was making a resitor type switch for the early cr guys, hats off to the electrical gurus.
If somebody lives near a Cummins dealer ship wouldn't mind picking one up and sending it to me, I will paypal them $20 for their trouble.
From the sounds of it, it could be mailed in a regular envelope for 39 cents.
