Amsoil bypass filter system question
I just spoke to a local Amsoil representative who told me that with the bypass system in place you can run for 100,000+ miles without changing the oil, just the filters. He said they (Amsoil) had recently ran a test with a big rig that did this for 400,000+ miles, amsoil paid to have motor broken down and there was negligible wear on the motor.
Is all this hot air or is it really worth it to get the bypass system?
If true it seems worth it.

Several people with ctd's have run more than 100k on the same run of oil. As the filters are changed, they are filled with new oil, which replenishes the additives. Determining the filter change interval is done by oil analysis. You will get a variety of opinions on whether or not they are worth it or not. Some will say the engine will outlast the truck no matter what you run it on. Some like to go above and beyond 'basic' maintenance or basic products. I like my amsoil bypass system.

As others have said, you will get various opinions on it and each has their pros and cons.
If you ask those of us that have them we love and think it's worth the money to invest in our trucks for duribility.
Yes you can go longer periods of time as long as you follow what AMSOIL tells you to do and get oil analysis every six months ond/or 7.5k miles. At that time you change the oil filter and maybe the Bypass filter every other filter change or when they tell you to.
You also need to buy the AMSOIL drop in air filter, I would buy 2 becasue it is easier to let the one dry while you put the clean one in.
I love mine system it's the only way to go.

Jmac the filters aren't too expensive, the full flow is like $12 maybe and the bypass is $25. I tested at 7500 but the oil was still brand new, so this time I have gone 10,000 miles on the full flow filter before changing it and took a sample. I should have results soon. So far my plan has been to change the full flow every 10k miles and the bypass every 20k. We will see how good of a plan that is after I get results back, and try to determine a full drain interval. Just for the heck of it, I'll probably change the oil every 40k.

As a small possibly irrelevant sidenote - d1 is CI-4 certified, not 'rated' like the amsoil , and should any dealer issue come up, at least the d1 is an approved oil.
My system is 'hooked up' with a billet oil filter adapter from TDR member CPFF , and the hoses run to a mount that's attached to the block. I highly recommend getting one of these adapters, it's worlds better than the amsoil supplied one. You can mount the system anywhere you like, provided it's a sturdy/solid area. Flimsy mount locations have been known to make an annoying hum.
