Yes intercoolers are nice, but do you really need them? Back when I had my 24V and was running twins just like everyone else or big singles.. only the top of the top comp guys upgraded their intercoolers. I was capeable of running 80psi with my B1/B2 and didnt have any cooling or boost issues.

I guess if you bust out the caculators you can prove that the Banks intercooler is better but do you really need it.

A far a D.Wiggs go ..... Go ahead and get it since youre building the ultimate CTD and money is no object. Please dont buy a Banks intercooler or any other Banks product. I'd hate for you go go to all of the trouble of building your own CTD the way you want it and giving Banks the reconition, if it was ever printed in a mag.

For the rest of you guys go research it some more before you go spending your $$$$ on something you may not need..

I am trying to! I have had to replace my BUllyDog Stage 3 Injectors (since they sent me ones for an '05) with a custom set of what would be about Flux 2.5 or so injectors from F-1 as well as a new CP3 Pump.

NOW the problem is my AFE Stage II Intake is only 4" and my Turbo needs a 5" one!!! If it's not one things, it is another!!!

I think I will do the BD intercooler, or City Diesel (I won't do Banks!).

On a side note, does anyone know if a Smarty will be of any use to me since I have the TST and Mp-8? I don't have a clue what the smarty does and if it would be necessary or even useful!

Any other suggestions on what I can do to my truck? As far as intakes, or really anything? This has been a trial and error process to say the least!

Well... I put the thing on with 1 bolt and hoped it didn't fall off. I knew if I sent it back I would get shafted and didn't have the $$ to buy another one from a different company. I thought about going that route but then Id never be able to get money out of the broke banks junk.

D.Wiggs,
Have you got the flux's and the cp3 yet?

I just got a new intercooler from Hellman Performance. Its a small shop near Houston.Joe custom builds them and just about anything else you could want.He is even building a all aluminum valve cover for common rails. The intercooler is a quality unit and lost only one pound of boost at 90psi.Thats efficiency at its best. You can see the intercooler and valve cover at www.hellmanperformance.com.

YES I would highly reccomend the Smarty.

I have seriously been following its development for the past 2 years. What it does it increased the rate/quickness of the fueling/HP. Pretty much it acts like a gasoline engine. If you stab the throttle in an instant your gone. It will light it up from a dead stop, and fuel hard. You lucky %$^%#'s get an extra 50hp for a total of 170HP plus all the benfits of reading and clearing codes and adjusting your spedo for your 22.5's

I hope to hav ethe CP3 and Flux's this week. My question is, what do I do about my AFE Intake?

My twin turbo needs a 5" intake but my AFE Stage II has only a 4" tube. Are there any 5" intakes out there that will maximize my air flow???

I dont think i have head of any intake with a 5" opening, the twins i have seen all seem to use some sorta fabed up piping with a cone on it..

I thought about that when i read that the twins needed a 5" opening.. So i went to some buddies and asked them ahead of time if they could fab me up somthing and they said Yes, so if i go with twins, then the guys from Pro Turbo Kits will fix the problem for me..

D.Wiggs, You get what I have coming .... an AFE 24-91026 Inverted cone 9x7x9(bdia x tdia x h) with a 6" opening for dyno and racing and a AFE 72-90021,exactly the same size but with the more restrictive PG-7 media. They are big and won't fit on all applications but they are smaller than the BHAF I have shoe horned in now. ks

You might consider having a super BHAF custom fabbed like mine...

Check out my pics!

5" intake

A company called Hose Techniques makes a silicone boot 5" to 4" reducer that fits nice on the front of the bottom turbo. This way you can fab up an intake tube in 4" because I know space is limited. Good luck and let us know how those twins work.

For referance, this is the filter they run on the 2nd gen 24V (98.5-02) AFE Stage II and Stage I Race Kits.

Now that I read, they actually use a 24-91002.....BUT this filter has the "Mega Cannon Top" with a 6" inlet on it.....HUGE...i got one in my truck.....

Is there going to be a big difference between making the AFE increase to 5" or going with a 5" or upping to a 6". I guess I am a little confused as to which would end up being the best for most efficient airflow.

The bigger the better...even if it is a 6" choked down to the 5" inlet. It is kinda like a velocity stack. You may not be able to fit it in there though. I had to use a 4" to 5" adapter to use my Scotty on my 5000...which is in the same postion as yours.

Order the bigger one and be prepared to go to the local big rig store for extra rubber 90's, 45's, tube, etc to make it work.
