Are they all pretty similar, or is one of those head and shoulders above the rest ?

I know the 05's needed cooler upgrades because of the plastic in their coolers, but the 06's dont have this problem. So when does an upgrade become neccessary?

When do you need an upgraded Intercooler

When I was looking into getting an intercooler I did the research on that exact question. I think you'll find that the stock Intercooler doesn't cut it once you are running somewhere between 40 & 45psi. I believe the stated limit is around 36psi. That means if your running even a mid size to large single,... much less twins then you need it. Also the Intercoolers mentioned meet that requirement.

While it is obvious that an OEM metal capped Intercooler is more durable and has proven to hold together much better than the OEM plastic capped units it is also true that the OEM metal capped units will begin to get pin holes once your running in that 40 & 45pis range with any consistency. For me it was a given that I needed a serious upgrade when I went to the twins and 62psi.

Bottom line,.... do your prep work on upgrades b-4 you do turbos or you won't like the alternative. It costs to play.

City Diesel's is the cheapest I believe. I also think they have a better warrenty. Somthing like "if you break it it's free if you tell us how you did it."Here's a link

This one is $825 and BD and Banks are both about $1200. I'd go bd over banks.

Intercooler support for twins

The reason I went with the Cool Twist from City Diesel was two fold. They have the best advertised warranty and they have the highest rated PSI. I felt like if you're going to have a cusion PSI wise then let's make it significant,.... especially if your not penalized $$$ wise.

I got the semi-polished aluminum one and glad I did rather than the black. I have the Laramie with the billet grill and the huge aluminum Intercooler sure looks sweet through the grill. I removed the molded plastic thingy in front of where the stock air intake was and that also helped to give it a balanced look from an appearance perspective.

It seems almost "too good to be true" that the City Diesel has the highest psi, is the cheapest, and has the best warranty. Is there something they aren't doing that BD and Banks are ? (other than price gouging)

TST/EDGE Stack

Does the TST Twins stack with the Edge so that you get the low RPM boost of the Edge with the high end RPM of the TST ?

I will be curious to see the NET HP figures my G-Tech Pro RR gives since NET HP is really what's important. In case you didn't know, Net HP takes RWHP and then factors in wind resistance and drag, etc.
Yes the TST Twins stacks with the EDGE EZ. Nice stack.

What are Banks and BD doing differently

What's the difference,,,,, is clear. Banks and BD spend huge $$$$$ in advertising. Pick up an RV mag or a Truck Mag or a Diesel Power Mag that doesn't have a Banks & BD ad in them. That cost them huge $$$ and it must be passed on. IMHO

Slow down guys, all of you dont need to go out and start buying intercoolers based on what 1 person on this board said.

Yes intercoolers are nice, but do you really need them? Back when I had my 24V and was running twins just like everyone else or big singles.. only the top of the top comp guys upgraded their intercoolers. I was capeable of running 80psi with my B1/B2 and didnt have any cooling or boost issues.

I guess if you bust out the caculators you can prove that the Banks intercooler is better but do you really need it.

A far a D.Wiggs go ..... Go ahead and get it since youre building the ultimate CTD and money is no object. Please dont buy a Banks intercooler or any other Banks product. I'd hate for you go go to all of the trouble of building your own CTD the way you want it and giving Banks the reconition, if it was ever printed in a mag.

For the rest of you guys go research it some more before you go spending your $$$$ on something you may not need..

I strongly agree with BigDan. The only reason I bought one was because my 05 had the limited edition plastic cooler

If I had to do it over again and knew what I do now. I would've spent 4 times as much if it meant Banks wasnt't getting my money.

Mine was shipped from their warehouse and when I got it the mounting tab was broke off so I called Banks and I was told that it wasn't their problem. I told them that was pathetic customer service. Then they told me that they deal with Hundreds of customers daily and my problem was very small and hung up on me.....

Gotta love Banks

That is a lousy piece of customer service. Was there any wrench marks on that baby,... kind of sounds like a return that someone didn't like or want and busted it and they didn't check it out b-4 sending it back our to you. I don't know that,... it just kind of sounds that way. So what did you end up doing,... repair it yourself or send it back and hope for a credit or refund?
