6 inch lift questions
6 inch lift questions
Good afternoon DTR,
I started installing my lift this morning, and i am almost done. It is a 6 inch pro comp coil spring kit. I cannot figure out how to get the pitman arm off. I have tried multiple pullers and pickle forks. is there something special I need? if so where can i get it? also, once your ready to reinstall the shocks, How do you compress them down enough to bolt down the towers? It may seem simple, but I have 2.0 Inch reservoir shocks and the truck is way up in the air.
thanks

Try a pitman arm puller...http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/kd2289.html
Bench press, floor jack, bottle jack, what ever it take to compress the shock to fit.

and your talking about sitting something on top of the shock thats heavy enough to compress it right? The passenger side is the problem because i cant put the shock tower on until I compress the shock lower than the turbo.
I wouldn't beat on the pitman too hard with a fork unless you are prepared to fix the leaking sector shaft seal that occurs after a bit much of that type activity. If heat and a puller don't work you might as well just cut it off. sometimes those things will be frozen on there beyond all hope of normal removal.

I bought and installed the same lift kit. I actually used a tie rod end puller. I just pue some pressure on the pitman arm beat on each side of it. Then put a little more pressure then beat again. I repeated this until it popped off. It took about three minutes and worked perfect. Didn't bend or break the teeth on the cheapy puller.

sixth pic down is the best view of it..
thanks fellas. My buddy let me grind down his puller it originally didnt work cause it was too small. I never would have thought to hit the screw once you tighten down the puller. It popped right off. Now I got to center my axle and get in the track bar bushing its also a pain in my forward point of reference. when I get that and my steering geometry where it needs to be. Ill be good.
