265/70/17 tires on stock dually??
My truck came from the factory with 235/80/17 tires installed. With these tires on my stock rims, I have about an inch of clearance between the sidewalls of my duals. I wanted to replace these tires with a little meatier tire and was looking at the Firestone Destination M/T in a 265/70/17. The dealer that I was working with told me that the Dayton Timberline M/T is the exact same tire, just a little cheaper. After searching through numerous different threads, I'm still not sure that these tires will fit on the back of my truck without my sidewalls rubbing. It seems as if some of you say it will fit, while others say that it won't without spacers. Do different brands of tires that are labeled as the same size fit while others don't?? I haul a considerable amount of weight and am very concerned about my sidewalls touching. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone else have any experience/information about this? I even asked the tire dealer this same question and he stated that he did not know but that it would be very close.

Thanks for the info. I guess that I will go ahead and order them. I generally run between 65 and 75 psi in my tires anyway. I,ve never had problems with the centers wearing first when aired up this high.

Check this link out. It was in another thread. Another thing to do is look up the tire specs of the tires you have, and the tires you are looking at from their respective site, or tire rack.

Thanks for the info guys......I did check out the tire specs for my stock tire and for the new Dayton Timberline M/T in the 265/70/17 size. The specs say that the section width on the Dayton 265 is 1" wider than my stock tire...of course they were measuring that width on a 7 or 7.5" rim. My stock rims are 6" I believe. If they are 1" wider, it will definately be a tight fit as I now only have about 1" of room between my sidewalls with stock tires.

265's are awesome on a dually....no mileage penalty to speak of and they look wide and mean....they will fit and it they are tight you can add a 1/4 inch spacing washer on the studs in minutes to get the happy distance..my tires have side tread and they still fit ... mine are Cooper s/t with a 11.03 section width...the more aggressive stt actually have a narrower section with of 10.8
Stock section width with the Goodyear 235 80's was 9.3....so I'm 1.7 wider and still have 1/4 to 3/8 with no spacer see my newest pix and the older ones...Kerry
