Hey i am getting ready to put a set of 265/70/17 cooper stt tires on my dually. I know they will be close, but i am wondering if i need a spacer so they wont rub on heavy loads and how big of a spacer?? 1/4" or maybe 5/16" and where is the best place to buy a good set of them? Is anyone running a set of the 265's, pics would be great! Thanks

 

I think you can get away without a spacer. A guy here has 285s and his don't touch. A 1/4" spacer should be plenty for a heavy load.

 

a friend of mine has the same size in BFG At/s, no rubbing with extra heavy loads....

 

I run the same tire with no problems pulling a 12,000lbs gooseneck.I did put a 1/4" spacer on for extra peace of mind but it is not really needed.Most tire stores around here have them if they mess with a bunch of trucks.You will like the tires, alittle bit of hummmm but nothing untolerable.

 

That is a great question. I want to do the same. I saw guys on here running the bridgestone revos. The 235 is only load B but 265 is E. So now I'm shopping around and most tire places only want to sell 235/80/17s to me (stock). But those are all road tread and i want lil more aggressive. So you can run 265/70/17s on a dually?

 

i ran this size on my 2003 dually in the bfg a/ts, they fit fine didnt come close to each other at all even under big loads. you will be fine! just look at my pics

 

I'm running that size in the s/t. The last set almost touched when empty 1/8" and touched when loaded to the max but I ran them 50k km and no problems and the sidewalls looked like new when I took them off...I got over 160k km out of the last set so I just couldn't justify getting anything else. My toyo oc at's are 1/2 worn at 35k km and are a full 1.5 inches shorter than the Coopers even though they are the same size.

This new set is over 1/2" apart at 60psi unloaded and 1/2" apart fully loaded at 80psi... Maybe they will get wider with age....but they fit with no spacers.

rotate often for best results....the fronts have to have some rear time if you are going to make the long mileage out of them. I think they are the best wearing tires bar none. Excellent offroad traction....but when new they pick up gravel like crazy but release the stones well at 65mph. You can add spacers up to 1/4 inch without loosing any thread contact. I thought there was a photo in my gallery....too lazy right now to look. If not I'll post some fresh pix. Kerry

I believe 265/70/17 was an optional upgrade when I bought my 05 truck, drw. Also when I run a check of tires @ the tirerack.com, it shows this tire as an option.

 

Thanks bout tire rack. Good point!!! HAHAHAH guess I should read further down the page! I just saw the original equipment before but then there it was. So now what does that do for the size. 70 vs 80? Shorter and wider?

yea no spacers and they worked fine....we farm and i pull a lot of tractors, hay, cattle, etc. and they never came close to touching
