1-4 Psi Fuel Pressure

My Holley Blue Is Making Around 1-4 Psi Of Fuel Pressure At Idle When It Is Cold Out Side I Run Additives That Help From Gelling When It Is Warm The Holley Makes About 12 Psi Of Fuel Pressure At Idle What Do You Think Could Be Causing This Holley Going Bad Fuel Thicker Becuase It Is Cold And By Cold Im Only Talking About 20 35 Degrees

it's more in sub-zero temps for periods of time that your fuel is going to thicken and gel. Especially with the new ULSD and 20 to 30 degrees is nothing.

Not sure what year truck you have but, even 12psi is low for a CP3... don't know about a VP pump. Maybe you can try adjusting the psi up some ( if able ) from 12psi to 20psi and maybe your idle will be better.

I'm not sure if this will help you but someone that ran a Holley pump gave me this advise.

"Just don't forget to remove the screen, give the pump a fair shake, or you'll be bashing them like o lot of others in a month or so. They just cant hardly pull this thick diesel through such tiny screen, you'll see what i mean when you remove it. Good Luck Guy!!"

Remove the bolts from the bottom cover and set aside, in the inlet theres a 2 or so inch long brass super fine screen, remove it and reinstall cover and gasket. If the screen is filty and plugged you might get luck and pump return to funtioning like new again. But more time when you run with a blocked screen it starves the rotors for lube and burns them up. Hope you get lucky and caght it in time, if not remove it from your new one and it will do you good for much longer!! Good Luck

If your screen is dirty and you're going to pull it you might want to put something in there to catch the big stuff. Glacier has a nice little 25 micron filter that might do the trick: http://www.glacierdieselpower.com/pr...x?pf_id=FF5079

Guys, that filter screen is a sand-blocker, ~0.005" - that is nothing compared to a 2micron filter, which is 0.000002", and which passes cold Diesel fuel and additives - must be something else, like maybe that holley needs a bypass hooked up to the return line to handle the 150gph volume capability

And, Dewitt: ease off on the caps, dude - that's gotta be hard on the pinky................

What ever the size, diesel is thicker and dirty , you simply dont need to be filtered before the pump, thats what the filter up front is for to catchit before it goes to the cp3 and critical componets. The way these holleys are made they can move the fuel and contamintes just fine untell the screen pluggs then the pump wont last long. Plus i believe thiers a sock filter already in the tank. Every one ive passed this info on to in the years passed has later told me that when they removed the screen it was a least 1/2 clogged with crap, this all is from experiense not just therory on this one.

That's believable - I've seen that thru the years, also, in passenger cars - if the screen is plugged up, that is definite reason for pre-filter - a Racor 10micron pre-filter\water separator would be just the ticket, then, mounted back on the frame-rail - it is available with and without a prime pump, has a see-thru bowl, and the replaceable cannister is easy-on\easy-off - installed to protect the vanes in the pump where large fuel contaminants are a problem
