Question 03-04 muffler size

Is there 2 different size mufflers(length) for the 03-04 trucks?
I'm thinking of replacing my muffler with a delete pipe, but my muffler is 38" long and the delete pipes with the bends to replace the muffler are only 30" long??
Also will this be really loud?
thanks everyone.

Do you like alot of drone in the cab? I installed a Banks cat back in my '07. Most people are using a big rig mufflers for a lot less money. Search for other posts about mufflers.

Muffler deletes are for one purpose, to make more noise. Same goes for high performance mufflers. Unless you are running 500+ HP, don't expect to see any gains except for noise.

That said, a louder diesel is music to my ears, although I don't have a loud diesel. I pull too often, and almost always a louder exhaust will cause drone, and drone will make you scream and pull your hair out while going down the highway. So if you don't use your truck as a truck, a louder exhaust can be fun.

If you just want a new muffler because the old one is rotted or you have too much money in your checking account, I run what a lot of people here do, the Donaldson commercial grade muffler. I have the 51" long 4" straight through design that you would swear will be loud because you can throw a softball through it, but it is as quiet as stock. If you keep your foot mashed in the throttle and pull heavy you will appreciate quiet.

Same thing here. I put a 51" Donaldson on at about 12K miles. I have 285K on it now and would replace it with the same if it rots out. About 70 bucks new and 50 for a shop to weld it on back then. Quiet, no drone, but I can tell it is a diesel if I get on it.

I used a 51" nelson and it wasn't as quiet as stock but it sounded like I had a trash can for a muffler. It's not quite 4" inside cuz of the louvered slits. I didn't like the trashcan sound so I packed the chambers with fiberglass and wrapped more FG around the outside and added another sheetmetal cover. Now it's a muffler inside a muffler and it was as quiet as stock inside and had a deep rumble outside til I changed the turbo and got drone. I fixed that with a small cherry bomb looking glasspack right after the DP. I'd look for the biggest longest glass pack or steel pack I could find and put it as far forward as possible. Craig

Louvered slits? Not in mine! I looked inside that big ol' torpedo and saw those and knocked them out with a ginormous long steel bar. 4" straight through, real quiet, no drone. I have a resonator and a cat though too....

I pull a 10000 lb gooseneck quite often and don't want any drone.
I'm a machinist and made my own intake pipe for it, and wanted to let it "flow" a little more freely.
Do any of you guys have the donaldson part # maybe I will give that a try.
thanks
