Why so doggy?

Hey every one. So I drove a buddies 2007.5 2500 4x4 manual this weekend pulling about 8000 pounds on relativly flat ground and went about 1200 miles. The truck has about 48k miles on it but seemed to be very sluggish. I've pulled plenty befor and never had much of an issue but the 6.7 didnt impress me as much as I thought it would. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 6.7 just a bored and stroked 5.9. My old 1st gen seemed to pull that load better. Any suggestions as to why this would be and what to do to get more power when I buy one myself.
Thanks Greg

Also more power more tc but also clogged up with emission crap, maybe it just needs a good service.
