Where to get a new turbo from?

I'm in need of a new turbocharger. Dodge wants $1500 for one. Found a good priced reman on ebay but seems to cheap. I think I want to keep the vgt. Only 37,000 miles is crap that my dime has to buy it but such is life. And is there any programming needed when its replaced? Would like to do the job myself if computers aren't involved. So what do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance!

First of all, what makes you think you need a new turbocharger? Did the dealer try to clean yours? Do you drive with the exhaust brake on? What type of driving, city, highway? Do you give the turbo a minute to cool down before shutting down the engine? What codes are you getting? You might just need to take the truck out and run the dog crap out of it for a few minutes to shake the the soot and slag out of the turbo..

I've been getting the p2262 code off and on for a while now. The dealer said replacing is the next thing. I'm not wasting time and my money on cleaning it since its on me. Haven't heard much success from that. No I haven't been using the brake as often as I should. I've been running the **** out of it lately with a super hot tank full of injector cleaner.

So I take it the "steal"ership is saying it's your dime due to the deletes?
Otherwise wouldn't the Cummins 100k mile/5 (?) year warranty cover the turbo? Or at least the 5 yr/50k mile emissions warranty?

Well my truck was a buy back from a bankrupt dealership. Bunches of dealerships were closed down if I remember right. Anyway when dodge bought my truck back the warranty or "in service date" started. So when I bought it there was a year and half warranty gone already. And yes they told me that. I think with the miles on it I should get some kind of help. They think not. A bummer deal

Don't know of a good turbo, but wanted to chime in on your paying for cleaning. I just had my turbo replaced under warranty about one month after the dealer drilled and cleaned it. If it were my money, I too would go straight for the turbo.

Ordered and on its way. Was informed that in late 08 dodge had the cleaning port installed on the turbo from new and also had updated a ring on the slide. Don't have all the technical info but from then on most slide related issues were gone. "Drilling and tapping for the cleaning is a band aid fix". This is from dodge direct so I assume the ring and slide fix works. Super glad to receive that information. Looking forward to getting it fixed up.

It should be yes. The "in service" date of your vehicle is the kicker.

From: In the big Sandbox
Strait from the 2008 warrenty book.
2.2 page 8
Sub part C
"When It Begins
The Cummins Diesel Engine Warranty begins at the
end of the Basic Limited Warranty, on either of the
following dates, whichever is earlier:
the date your truck has been in service for more
than 36 months; or
• the date you've put more than 36, 000 miles on
the odometer"
So if you fight with dodge they will accept the cummins warrenty as 136,000 miles or 8 years whichever comes first.

Warranty starts when vehicle goes into service. From that day. So all warranty dates start from there. Its not an additional 5 years after the 3 year bumper bumper.
