What is "In Service Date"?

Can someone tell me what Chrysler means when they reference an "in service date"? Is that the day I bought the truck or the date the dealership bought it from Chrysler?

The reason I'm asking is because I got my extended warranty paperwork in the mail yesterday and while I bought the truck on 10/9, it shows the warranty effective based on the in service date of 5/31. I'm not too happy about losing 5 months on my warranty so I'm wondering if it's a typo or one of those "fine print" clauses I overlooked before I start raising heck with the dealership.

And please don't flame me with opinions about whether I wasted money on an extended warranty or not.

I think in the owners manual it states something about that and if it had almost 0 miles it should have went in to warrenty when you bought it. One question for you. Are you just looking at getting the extended warrenty because as the date when your warrenty would end is still quite a while away but it is smart to get one now so it is cheaper.

The truck had 14 mi on the odometer; that's new to me.

I got the warranty when I purchased the truck because I like the rental car program (basically free), the trip interruption coverage and the bumper to bumper coverage after 3/36. Other than wear and tear, no worries for 6 years/100K.

I have plenty of other things in my life I can worry about.

As long as the truck was never titled and had under 80 miles or something like that, The day you bought it from the dealer is its in service date. The extended warranty should be the same because like you said, your losing 5 months or your warranty. I would question your dealer.

With that low of miles the dealer didnt use the truck meaning your warrenty started the day you bought it putting it to use. Talk to your dealer they should be able to fix it.

It dosen't matter how many miles were on it when he bought it. The day the paperwork was signed and he drove it off the lot was the in service date. If you want to check and see what the in service date is to verify you can go to the parts department and they should be able to print you out a build sheet with the in service date on it.

I'll try that. I'm going in on Tuesday for the O2 sensor module recall anyway.

The date you take delivery of the truck or the date was first put into service example dealer demo truck. If the dealer used it as a demo or anything else that would put miles on it, then that is why so milage does matter. Maybe it was just test driving it, but with a brand new truck with more than 200 miles there should be a red flag, if selling brand new. If 50 or less miles then yes talk to the dealer they should be able to fix, but if it was a demo truck you will be screwed but throw a fit and get the dealer to cover a % of the extended warrenty for lieing to you and not telling you about it.

I'll give them a chance to make it right now that I know the terminology. The truck was documented as only having 14 miles on the odometer at the time of purchase. So far the dealer, Tempe Dodge has been great other than not washing my truck last time I picked it up. After the fuss I made, I guarantee that won't happen again.

Demo trucks are used vehicles and should be sold as a used vehicle. If it really is a demo than the truck is used not new.
