What do I have?
What do I have?
Hey guys, I work at a dodge dealership and they cleaned out the big pile of warranty stuff dodge didn't want back. I hauled home a he351vgt, and what appears to be a throttle body... But its odd. It was made by siemens VDO. It also looks like a drive by wire unit, no cable but has a 4 wire plug coming out of it, and defiantly has a electric motor in it. It also springs open not closed... and has a cummins part #! Now, I'm not new to diesel's and I KNOW they don't need a TB!
So anyone know what the heck this thing is? Some sort of intake brake? Im actually just trying to figure out how to control it. Its going to make a nice exhaust cutout on my sleeper turbo new yorker?

Sounds like it is the EGR servo motor on the 6.7L's. Next time you have a 6.7L in your shop, take a look on the passenger side of the valve cover, sitting atop the EGR cooler. It should be the part you are looking at.
does it have a butterfly valve inside it? If so it is the EGR butterfly in the intake horn. It's located slightly down the intake horn from the EGR itself. Now that I reread your original post, it definately sounds like the EGR butterfly.
Yup, it has a butterfly valve, thats why I thought it was a Throttle body. So, anyone know how to make this thing work? Or have the pinouts for the 4 prong plug? Ill probably just take it apart and figure it out.

What are you trying to do with it? Just playing with it or are you trying to put it on a truck? If the latter, it's only useful on a 6.7L truck with an EGR. It serves no purpose on the 6.7L other than to control the amount of fresh air intake versus EGR on an emissions-functional truck. When the butterfly is closed, the truck is running almost purely on EGR (fresh air is blocked off). When the butterfly is fully open, a corresponding smaller butterfly inside the EGR itself closes and the truck is running purely on fresh air. Of course, there are a million levels in between, giving a mixture of EGR and fresh air.
