Thinking of buying a new 08

I'm about ready to order anew 08 megacab. Sticker is around 49500 and with rebate the final cost is 42500 give or take a few pennies minus trade plus tax title.

Is this enough discount?

Also we plan on getting a 5th wheel camper in the future. Will I have any problems with a short bed?

I'm not talking a huge rig < 10,000 lbs.

Thanks for any help!

I would think you could get closer to 10K off the sticker. Should be able to get 3% under invoice then add your rebates in.

You won't have any troubles with a 5th wheel. I did have to put a Sidewinder Kingpin on my truck to allow for the short bed, but it was only a few hundred bucks, and since I have the Sidewinder, I have a plain old Reese 16K hitch. It works awesome. Your MegaCab will work awesome pulling a trailer in that weight range. Scotty

if i were you i would go ahead and order it a 3500 SRW rather then a 2500 if that is what you are looking at. Its only a few hundred bucks more and it will help keep you under your ratings. I would have gone that way myself if i was ordering one, but i couldnt find a 3500 SRW so i just bought a 2500 and will put air bags on it...

That is the same thing I did (airbags that is) and I pull a 40ft Raptor. It handles the trailer with no problems. I agree that you could get the 3500SRW, but if they are not available the 2500 is the same truck minus the overloads and will handle that weight with ease. but yeah, if you can swing it and you are ordering, might as well get the one ton. Isthere any difference in the ride between the one ton and the 2500? I will be using this truck alot on trips and the like without a trailor attached just as a nice trip vehicle for 2. So will Ibe disappointed in the ride on a one ton?

My brother's Dodge 2007 (5.9L) 2500 manual trans rides fine for me actually I think very good.

Have any of you went to variable rate rear shocks to use for heavy towing then lighten them up for a daily driver to lessen the effects of no weight on the rear axle?

Thanks

Mike

The truck will ride great with a trailer attached all the time. Its when you don't have any weight on the rear axles that they ride rough.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you here.

My 2007.5 RAM 3500 MegaCab SRW rides better than the 2003 RAM 2500 Quad Cab SWB it replaced.......the difference in wheelbase makes a noticeable difference in ride.

i didnt debate the ride diff between the 2500 and 3500, just said that the truck will ride great with a load on it.. But since you mentioned it, i had a 04.5 2500 and i think it road better than my new 07.5 megacab 2500. Each were on 35inch mud terrains... but as soon as i hook up to 9k lbs my megacab rides great.. super smooth. I think my Resevoir Bilstien shocks are a bit stiff for highway driving.. but when you hit those really big bumps (sand dunes), its super smooth really cushioned coming down..

the 3500 and 2500 should ride the same until you have a heavy load. From what i understand the springs are pretty much the same until it comes time for the overloads to take their share of the load. The 3500 has the additional overloads...

quite a few ppl here run the bilstein shocks... i dont have them on this truck yet but have to agree they are top notch. Some ppl also run the rancho RS9000 that are adjustable for loads and what not... Lots of ppl like those as well...

Well, folks I ordered my new 2500 today and I'm excited. I hope it is everything I really wanted. Traded my Avalanche in and I really liked that truck except for towing.

I ordered a Megacab, diesel, SLT with most everything on it Except leather seats and the nav package. I just can't beleive Dodge's infinty system doesn't have a connection for an MP3 Player. Even myDurango has this.

Anyway, my Dodge Dealer is Whiteside Dodge in Mt. Sterling Ohio and he gives great deals folks. Pass his name on.

I loved the Ford but couldn't get away from that Cab being pulled off to work on the engine.

Now I have to go tell the Avalanch Fan Club goodbye. Wish me luck.

They won't understand or they'll be jealous.

Either way, you're one of us now. Tell them you'll give them a wave as you go buy them on that next mountain pass.

BTW, hope you have a "Mega" garage for that new truck, you'll need it.

Either way, congrats!!!
