Engine Oil Leak

Some time ago I posted about my new 2007.5 3500 RAM leaking oil from the front of the engine. The problem is still unresolved and two previous attempts have failed to fix it. The last tech to look at it said he needed a few days to tear the front of the engine down but I couldn't leave the truck with him since I was using it to move my mother to Florida. Now I'm here in Ocala, Fla and have an appointment for 1 Nov to have it looked at again.

The reason i'm resurrecting this thread is to ask two question:

1. Is anyone else on this forum experiencing oil leakage issues?

2. Is it possible that an over-full oil level may cause this? I've always added 12 quarts of oil (including one in the filter) but read on another forum that some dealer recommended adding only 11 quarts since overfull dipstick readings on these 6.7 engines seems to be common (mine always reads overfull).

Thanks in advance for your assistance and input....Ed

PS...Anyone familiar with the Dodge dealer in Ocala, Fla? Are they any good?

My 6.7 and just about every other one I've seen reads over full at the top of the plastic area. I put in exactly the recommended amount of oil when I change it and it always stays at that same level. I don't have any oil leaks nor would I expect one to happen from being too full of oil unless you were a gallon or two over full.

It's probably some form of bearing seal or sensor thats leaking, should be a simple fix once they locate it.

Are you putting in 13 Quarts? 12 quarts down it's neck and one in the filter?

You should only be putting in 11 quarts down it's neck and one in the filter for a total of 12 quarts. Over filling it with oil may cause a seal to blow oil out.
It's possible.

No, I've made SURE that only 12 quarts total had been installed.

Aside to Mountain Trucker: The fix may not be as easy as you mentioned because two attempts to fix it by replacing the timing chain cover seal, which the mechanics thought was the cause, didn't really address the issue. Like the third mechanic said who inspected the leak, it's going to take a more intensive tear-down of the front portion of the engine to locate it. I hope to have more answers by next Thurs.

Well, since you have got that ironed out I wish you luck. It can be fixed but attention to detail is what it is going to take and a good tech.
