my dealer did it free, and many guys on here have had it enabled free. obviously you best shot is with the dealer you purchased from. it literally takes only a few minutes for them to do it. $110 is pure rape!!!!! that is an 1 1/4 hours labor rate at the dealers here in austin!!

Did mine last week. Part was 12 bucks at a Cummins parts and service shop. Homewrecker pm'd me some great pics that Matego had posted and of course that was cool and made it easier. It's a great addition to a great engine. Oh wait, they had these 70 or more years ago, called it a throttle, He He. Still, gotta love internet, DTR and the great, helpful guys on here that are happy to help folks out. Congrats Mr. ED, guess your setup is different than an 06, mine just had to plug into pin 22 and be grounded,(no firewall business and yes, the wire should have been 8 or so inches longer.

I've got an 08 manual six speed. The first dealership would not ground the green wire, wanted me to purchase the clutch switch for $260.00 plus and then they would enable the high idle. Grounded the green wire myself and took it to the second dealership, the wanted $110.00 to enable the high idle. Took mastercaster's advice went back to the dealership where I bought the truck, they wanted $85.00 to do the job, got them to do it for $40.00. I'm lucky to get anything for free, anyway it's done.I'm just waiting on the CEL to come on, It's got 4500 plus on the OD. Down time is not an option for this truck

good deal. glad you got it going. sometimes it can be hard to negotiate it for nothing after you already own the truck. my dealer was really cool and the diesel tech back then had no idea that it could even be done on a manual tranny. so he was happy when i showed up, showed him the wire and he just did it. if i would have known at the time of purchase, i'd of had the dealer write it into the deal as a freebie just to be safe. oh well, sometimes we gotta pay. just remember that if the truck is reflashed, it will default to being turned off. they have to go back in and enable it again. could save another trip or even payment to the dealer.

oh yeah, for anyone else, as 38short stated, the dealer won't ground that wire. it's strictly a liability thing. honestly i am a little suprised they even enable it without the clutch safety switch in place. even though you still have a couple other safety devices (emergency brake, touch the brake peadl etc.) to shut it off, i would think the DC lawyers would be absolutely against doing it without the clutch switch.

I just traded the wifes Aspen for an 07 w/6.7 6spd. Had the dealer enable high idle but it still wouldn'twork. Read all the posts I could find and then went out and after nearlyfreezing to death finally found the VERY SHORT wire. Grounded it under the harness mount and now have a sweet High Idle! Thanks guys. I put that wire to ground and my high idle now works (it would have been nice if they made that wire several inches longer).

Thanks, guys. You've been a great (and might I add, patient) source of information and assistance...
Could you possibly provide a picture of this wire and where you grounded the wire to.
A picture is worth a million words.

Thanks.

I'll look, I have pictures of the switch somewhere. I think I paid a tad under $30 for the switch and $8 for the pig tail that goes in the harness.

I can't find my pics so I'll look for the info. So far.....

you can find the pig tail info here....

I had mine programmed when I bought the truck. I told the dealer that it was part of the deal and they did it for free. I have the auto so I didn't have to ground the wire but the programming took them all of about 2 minutes. I LOVE my high idle...
