Its the difference in the ecm.There was a change.When the change took place was when high idle capability occurred.If your 04 has manual through the cruise high idle great cause apparently not many were able to and no 03s.I know what those bulletins say about 98 to 03 and all that but no one including whats his name"Marco" that's makes Smarty downloads has been able to prove or make it happen on those year models.The subject has been beat to death for ages and yet no one has 03s and what one or? 04s with high idle through the cruise circuit. For ages a few swore their 03s/04s had 3 cyl.high idle which they don't.I think just trucks not running right.

Yet the fact remains there are wreckers and rollbacks with the SAME engines and ECU in them that have some type of idel feature for the PTO operations, which is what we are tapping into anyway. To date NO ONE has followed the TSB and posted the results good or bad. Saying it doesn't work just because nobody has done it does not mean it can't be done.

Then again, maybe its not possible with the Dodge programming, and, given the amount of time and expense involved it may not be worth it. Not gonna know until its been investigated and what the blocking issues are, whether it be the type of CC , programming, chassis, or ????

You're going after the wrong part, that's the mystical kit number that nobody stocks or can find. If you want the switch only, you want part number 3871395, description switch, clutch. Mine came packaged in a clear plastic bag that said "CBRAKE by Jacobs" on the label. The switch has a 2' pig tail. On the side of the switch it reads;
Jacobs U.S.A.
0534 mx 012246

I think I bought this at the dealer. Hope it helps.

I don't recommend buying a switch or clutch kit for the manual transmission trucks.

Just buy the ECM pigtail/connector for approx. $10 at a Cummins dealer. Install it and ground it.. That's all I did.

Cummins ECM Pigtail p/n 3824810 which now subs to p/n 3164263.

This lengthy thread has more details and confirms that some of the 2004 HO and SO trucks have the manual high idle working.

A quick note to those in BC, Canada. I was at BD Power today in Abbotsford and the mechanic enabled high idle on my 2006 6 speed for me. I already had the wire installed on the ECM, but I just wanted to let you guys know they can do it in there for you.

ok but how about for us 2002 24 valve guys... i HAD the high idle on my truck! from the cruise control!!! so no one can tell me different... took it to the dealer to get a lil check up, new truck had to haul my 5th wheel and didnt have guages on yet. they check all my pressures and the ECU and stuff, and it never worked after that... but i HAD it!!! i found it by accident and it wasnt no -5 outside it was like 45-50

so it IS possible on our trucks, i dont know if the previous owner had a smarty enabled high idle or what, but it was there...

No. 03s were not capable.Mine has the AUTO high idle if ambient is below a certain temp(32 0r such) if left with parking brake on.They ALL have that(03 up) but is not capable of it through the cruise system. I use a stick and adjust the seat if I feel its needed. Year models that pins can be grounded and ecms that can be re-flashed has been beat to death in past posts/threads.

Tried it on my late 03, APPS under battery, grouned pin 22, Smarty Jr on the truck, no dice. At this point I'm content not having it, I'll resort to my wooden stick wedged on the throttle. I have yet to hear of ANYONE with an 03 saying they have got it.

Yes, it is possible as you have seen. Seen it work on a lot of rollbacks. Its in the PTO options in the Cummins ECU flash and available all the way back 98.5. What Dodge did was flash your ECU with a load that disabled it and did not relaize it. Just gotta love them looking out for you, eh? Every time I have to take the truck near a delaer I make them write down DO NOT TOUCH THE ECU WITHOUT EXPRESS PERMISSION.

The current Dodge supplied programs need a specific ECU # to load and work correctly. The Cummins flash does not and integrates differently with external devices.

The Dodge TSB's detail how to activate it on pre-Dec 2003 trucks and use the current Dodge provided programs.
